New motherboard/PC. Bios up to date.wl

1. Enabling X30 mode on CPU (9800x3D) in bios -> bios won't post, red and amber warning light, or just amber sometimes. Doing full power cycle doesn't help
2. Enabling expo on my ram (2x16gb Gskill trident neo) causes it to do the same. Sticks tested and seem fine, and running just one makes no diff.
(Both CPU and RAM are in their compatability list i believe)
3. About 1/3 of the time, the ethernet drivers don't work. I was getting a code 12 with an apparent resource conflict with one of the motherboards SATA drivers. Disabling that stopped the code 12s but now I get an assortment of other errors with about the same frequency. Reinstalling drivers doesn't help. Not a fatal issue as restarting fixes it most of the time, but a pain in the arse.
4. Bios flashing w USB doesn't work. As in, not it just doesn't fix the issue - just flashes red indefinitely for hours and hours. Seems not to recognise anything is in the slot. Have tried with a couple of USBs, checked their formatting, downloaded the drivers again, checked the names and extensions - no luck.
5. Also some of my cases USB slots aren't working despite being plugged in correctly, but 50:50 the case is the issue. Lancool217

Fortunately, resetting the CMOS allows me to turn on my PC just fine, I'm just stuck with an underpowered CPU (due to the ram speeds rather than the X30 which is of uncertain significance) and I'm in trouble if I ever need to flash my bios.

There's a few work arounds I can try for the ram which may or may not work, but given I've seemingly encountered every common issue known for this mobo... Should I just seek refund at this point?

Well, no, because I can't flash my bios from a USB you see, and for reasons unclear to me MSI centre doesn't detect the latest bios drivers even in advanced mide. So my bios drivers are about 2 version out of date (like June instead of September). I can try using M-flash again now that I have managed to make it factory reset and actually turn on (had to 3 times now trying different fixes)?

Doing it from an SSD, M Flash doesn't recognise the file as a bios file. I've checked correct model and version. Like, I can find the file but it doesn't recognise a bios can be installed from it. The computer then won't restart and displays all error LEDs until I clear CMOS. So I remain stuck at V1.A70

Any ideas re:ethernet?
Try the following. Unplug the PC from the mains and hold down the power button for 30s. Then plug up the PC and start it again. This process will drain the capacitor of all the voltage lines effective shutting down Ethernet and WiFi adapters on the 5V Standby line which will get them out of an undefined state.

Haha, I've had to do something to that extent about a half dozen times already for purposes of setting up the other stuff and clearing the CMOS. It's hard to know if it does anything or not to the ethernet - as it occurs about 1/3 of the time (i.e. is it random chance or otherwise?). Sometimes affects the ethernet, sometimes wifi, sometimes both. Updating the bios the first time (to 1A70) seemed to resolve the code 12 error (resource conflict) with the SATA drivers (not that I need SATA) but I still get code 45 errors (device not connected)

Notably, i have an old ethernet pcie card from a prior machine that still works on windows 11. Also uses Realtek drivers. Tried plugging it in, and issue effects it as well. Manually updating Realtek drivers doesn't help, and the wifi runs off separate Qualcomm drivers. So presumably nothing wrong with the hardware or necessarily even the ethernet drivers, but perhaps a bios setting issue? I don't know much about advanced bios settings tho - thoughts?

I'm using an intermediary switch (can't recall model off top of my head but can check later if it matters when I get home from work) but other devices attached to it have never had any issues - lappy, smart TV, AV receiver - and I don't have any port blocking likely to be relevant to windows set up atm and it doesn't seem likely to be related anyway (just a couple ports that sony updated it's TVs to use to quietly spy on you a few years ago. Might have cancelled their contact with that company though because the proprietary software was so resource intensive that older Bravias became unusable without a jailbreak)

Try the following. Disable Wake on LAN on your old Ethernet PCIx card and disable Fast Startup in Windows. See whether that helps.

With Fast Startup Windows will when shutting down put the sessions on disk (similar to sleep mode) also including the Windows kernel. That means that drivers will not be closed down (their state get stored on disk) and will be (quasi) running for multiple weeks on end. Not all drivers are designed and tested for this scenario and may start acting finnicky. This may f.e. also influence performance of Windows with vague symptoms. It is why I keep Fast Startup disabled. Fast Startup was made to make booting a bit faster but in the day and age of SSDs that advantage may be a moot point. I prefer stability over that little advantage.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot and report back in the next few days if I'm still getting errors.

EXPO still working btw, so that's good. I'm actually gonna be switching out my RAM soon so fingers crossed it still works :p Crucial Vengeance RGB ddr5 so it *should* be fine.

(was borrowing some spare sticks until mine arrives. Due to high prices having to shop abroad! Legit retailers ofc)
