Hi everyone, for a month now I've been the owner of the new Titan GT77 with RTX 4080, and I'm having a major issue with smoothness. I don't know what's causing the sudden screen freezes, but at random moments, for example, after putting the laptop to sleep and waking it up, then launching a game or switching to a different one, or even in a game where everything was fine before, the screen starts freezing, which is really frustrating and makes online gameplay impossible. Every 3 seconds, the screen freezes for 1 second, the graphics usage drops from 120-130W to 80W and then returns, the FPS suddenly drop from 60 to 40 and then return, and this happens every 3 seconds for 1 second. When this starts happening, the only solution is to restart the laptop.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Do you know how to solve it? Yesterday, I also updated the BIOS to the latest version, but it didn't help. There's also a problem with sound and USB. The sound volume decreases on its own after a while and then randomly gets louder again. Initially, I set the volume to 30% and everything is audible, but when it gets quieter, I have to set it to 60% to achieve the same loudness as in the beginning, and then it suddenly goes back to normal, and I have to lower the volume again. As for USB, I've encountered an issue where after 2-3 weeks since buying the laptop, whenever I connect something to USB, or even use Bluetooth headphones, an MSI page with drivers pops up every time. So, I downloaded the drivers for the mouse that came with the laptop, and now whenever I connect anything to USB or Bluetooth, the application asks me if it can run the mouse program in administrator mode (even when it is already running), and I can't seem to disable it permanently... All drivers are up to date.

Hello, thanks for the response. I tried completely removing all Nvidia drivers using the DDU program and reinstalled them from scratch, and the issue disappeared. For the past two weeks, I haven't noticed any screen freezes or sound volume problems. Unfortunately, a new problem with lags has emerged. When I start a game, for the first few minutes, the game stutters, and the FPS keeps fluctuating constantly, looking like this for a few minutes (50-32-40-36-25-48-36). After a few minutes, everything returns to normal. I haven't been able to resolve the continuous prompt issue from the MSI GAMING MOUSE application yet. The application keeps popping up, asking whether to run the program in administrator mode when I connect something to USB or Bluetooth. I tried uninstalling the program, but then when I connect my Bluetooth headphones or a USB flash drive, a browser opens with an MSI webpage and drivers.

> Which game do you play when you encounter the issue?
Does the problem only happen to a certain game?
It is also suggested to provide the graphics setting for reference.

Thanks for the response. The issue affects every game; I set all the settings to max and limit the FPS to 60. The problem also occurred outside of games. I was watching a movie and suddenly after a while, it started freezing for a second, as if jerking. I paused it and began moving the mouse cursor, which also stopped for a second. Essentially, the entire screen started freezing. So, I ruled out the Nvidia graphics, thinking it might be Intel, but Nvidia works in games... So, indeed, there might be something wrong with the system. I found a guide on how to repair Windows; I did an SFC Scan, DISM, Disk Check, and Windows Memory Test https://www.minitool.com/backup-tips/windows-11-freezes.html. After this, I didn't notice any screen freezes, but it's been just 1 day for now

I am sending a link to a video with continuous messages. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hhlxPEmPbAwqKQiaFsa2vnZ5rfbxMKlz/view?usp=drive_link
EDIT:
Unfortunately, I tested the games today, and the problem still persists on various graphic settings... In the video, you can see the screen stuttering. I'm out of ideas now.

Based on the provided video, I do not see FPS drop while the system is stuttering.
Will you see the same behavior on the external monitor and BIOS mode?
I want to know if it is caused by the built-in display.
What is the setting of User Scenario in MSI Center?

I don't have an available monitor to connect right now and check it. Maybe in a few days, I'll manage to borrow one. What specifically should I pay attention to in BIOS mode? These screen freezes occur randomly – sometimes after an hour, and other times after a few minutes. In the recording, the screen started freezing around 30 minutes in and lasted for about 7 minutes. Sometimes it freezes for 3 minutes, sometimes for 10 minutes, then stops, and returns after some time. It seems to me that it's not an issue with the screen itself. In MSI Center, I have the user scenario set to balanced.

If the behavior is random, it is hard to see in BIOS mode.

> What if you switch to Extreme performance mode?

It is suggested to check your laptop's performance (CPU & GPU)
CPU: You can run Cinebench R23
GPU: You can tun Time Spy or Fire Strike
After finishing the stress test, you can provide screenshots of the result. I can help you to check.

I set it to maximum performance mode, but it didn't yield any results. I conducted CPU and GPU tests. In the first result, there was a screen freeze, then I changed the language in 3DMark and ran the test again, but this time there were no screen freezes. In files 1 and 2, there were screen freezes, while in files 1.1-1.3, there were no screen freezes. There are screenshots with the results in the link.

I reinstalled the Windows operating system from scratch, completely formatting my laptop and removing all drivers. I managed to resolve all previous issues, except for the screen freezing. I tested the laptop for several days after the format, and still, while gaming, watching movies, or even just on the desktop, the screen randomly stutters, freezing the image for a second. I'm not sure if it's a Windows configuration problem, an issue with the graphics card, or if the laptop itself is faulty. Ultimately, I would like to use the warranty, but this is my only device for gaming and work. I'm not sure if anyone here can help me, but perhaps someone recognizes the issue or has experienced the same problem. Therefore, I'm also attaching videos from the desktop and from a game that show how the image is disrupted. Thank you to everyone who tried to help earlier.

Did you use the external monitor to check?
The issue also happens to the external monitor?

I am having an issue where I get stutters watching video and in gameplay. Sometimes it's perfect, sometimes every few seconds it skips and stutters. It's been driving me crazy trying to work out, but it definitely on this end at least, has something to do with Optimus mode which is my preferred mode (so I can enable adaptive sync).
Not sure if it's related to the OP's issues but I have never, EVER had such weird issues with my previous laptops (Alienware and Lenovo).

I really thought the problem was Kaspersky so I exited it (unlike most AV products you can actually completely exit Kaspersky to the point there are not even any active processes related to it running in task manager). But it persisted. I am glad it's NOT that as I love Kaspersky as an AV/Firewall AIO solution.

Anyway for example, I was watching Sanctuary on Amazon Prime before.. Just 1080P video, not even 4K, and like clockwork, ever 10 seconds a skip and stutter. I am sure it also has something to do with DPC latency which can be very bad on this machine.

I really love this laptop, I even got totally past not having G-Sync, but this is just too weird.

I only rebooted a few hours ago so have no idea why it's happening right now. Is it Afterburner perhaps? Don't know.

So I'm not alone :D I have this issue all the time, but I noticed it mainly freezes if I put the laptop to sleep and then wake it up or when I play games for a long time. If I turn it off and on again, it usually works without any lags. I have no idea why this happens, but now I either turn it off completely or leave it on. I've done all the updates and I use Intel® Driver & Support Assistant for updates because the drivers on the MSI website are outdated. When you start up the laptop, don't put it to sleep, just turn it off completely, like I do. Maybe that will minimize the lags. Are you using MSI Center? If yes, have you installed additional programs, like 'System Diagnostic', which you run in the Functions tab? I'm mainly concerned about the battery. MichelN86 made me think because I once set the battery to charge up to 80%, and I had lags all the time, but after restoring it to 100%, they significantly reduced. The worst part of all this is the price of the gaming laptop that becomes unusable when it starts lagging. If you have a PC or another laptop and don't want to go through what I did, send it back for warranty service and let me know if they manage to fix the lags. Unfortunately, I only have this laptop, so if I send it in, I'll be left with just a phone for 2 weeks :')

I am not sure if we have the same issue Patryk, as I have sleep disabled and the PC on high performance mode at all times, plugged in. It's a desktop replacement for me and the battery is only there as an emergency UPS so to speak.
I am at a loss.. I get noticeable FPS drops like a clock when it does happen. Youtube and Netflix and the like become unpleasant to watch, as does gaming.
I really believe in my case it has something to do with Optimus mode as it performed as expected in direct GPU mode the one time I tested it for a few hours.
One thing I noticed was that my situation improved when I shut keyscrambler down. I am not happy about it because it encrypts absolutely everything I type, but it's obviously intefering in some other ways. I am going to do some extended testing this weekend, process by process, app by app, till I find the culprit(s).

Maybe I am wrong and we are indeed having the exact same problem. Maybe I am misunderstanding you. Touch wood - the laptop never hangs here completely or anything, it stutters. Like a pause and skip in the video frames. Is this precisely the same for you?

I did use some newer drivers from Intel myself except for wifi as the MSI driver is way better. I have IPV6 issues with the latest which are all but eliminated with the MSI driver. There is a reason MSI doesn't update till they vet said updates, look at my topic on steel series for example. The MSI is the best one to use out of all of them (in fact things are better since I did that also).

I use MSI download page drivers for bios of course, audio, some or most Intel stuff, card reader, network, fingerprint sensor.. and intel direct drivers for GPU, bluetooth and chipset, and Nvidia direct for GPU. I wish I could help you and myself!

I also have sleep mode disabled, I mean manual sleep mode, which is "FN + left arrow".
I'm not sure if you've seen my previous posts and videos about the lags. My laptop doesn't freeze completely, just as you described, it stops for a moment and then jumps in frames. For example, during gaming, everything is fine, but after a while, the screen suddenly freezes for a second and then goes back to normal, and again, for a second, the image stops and then returns, and this happens every now and then. The same happens on YouTube and Netflix. Setting the battery charging from 80% to 100% reduced the lags a bit, but didn't eliminate them. Check out my previous videos; the links are on Google Drive. I demonstrated in a few examples how these lags occur on my system. Let me know if your situation is similar.

Maybe you're right about the Optimus mode. I use it exclusively in this mode. I'll try running it directly from the Nvidia card and see if it's indeed the Optimus mode causing these lags.

Yep, identical problem. They need to update some relevant drivers and bios IMO. I think the latest bios may have actually worsened it.
So it's an issue with this laptop. Ridiculous isn't it for something so incredibly expensive? I love the laptop so much and I keep forgiving it but never, EVER will I buy an MSI laptop again.

You might try to download latencymon and check your scores. I think DPC latency is related.

DGPU mode loses iGPU on battery and all adaptive sync. If MSI weren't such tight wads and had included g-sync like every single other (yes, all of them) major laptop manufacturer this year, I'd always be in dGPU mode anyway, as I don't need battery life, but many people do. I mean it would cut watching Netflix from something like 7 hours to 2, maximum.
Maybe this IS Intel adaptive sync related, the windows games optimisations VRR settings related, something like that, since the 4090 goes through the intel GPU in Optimus mode to achieve VRR.

Anyway, in 2025 will be Asus, Alienware or Razer. Nothing else ever again.
