Thanks a lot i will be there :)

I will check it on Sunday cuz i'm not at home for the week!

Thank you for your precious help!  :biggthumbsup: Hope it will work!
Here are promised drivers :)
https://forum-en.msi.com/moderator/pics/svet/GT735%20Chipset%20&%20VGA%20for%20XP.zip

If still doesn't work, do a new fresh XP installation then install them 1st before anything else.

Hello again BK!

Well, with your procedure, i managed to put back the original bios 1721 version onto the notebook. At least one thing was working!!  :photo:

In the flash recovery process, it said that the Rom checksum was bad and that Nvram data will be destroyed but CMos data will be preserved and started the flash process without problems.

So I started over a new install (WinXP home or pro SP2/3) but is still not detecting my HDD.

Bosskiller, do I have to choose another modified bios of ur section?? Did I do smthg bad when flashing bios?? using usb floppy with a boot disk and another with the bios upversion??

Another thing I was thinking of is do I have maybe first to boot with W98 and perform a FDISK to erase partitions??

Did Nvigneron do smthg special to boot and let WinXP recognise the HDD??

Thanks in advance guys,

Alain

Yes that is expected since we have done nothing yet.

About AHCI not for now,{else key swapped version should be OK} i will make another one which should get rid of AHCI but via different way.
Will PM you with details when i've done, of course if you want to assist.
In a failure case should be able to recover by the same way.

It seems that so many people still be fond of XP OS;
you can go to MSI web to download AHCI driver, put into blank FDD, and make boot disk;
then, F11 choose ODD boot, remember put into XP OS disc.; during the installation, press F6 key;
it will load AHCI, when display loading mass storage window, show Pressing S key;
you should press the S key, in short time, the AHCI finished installation; format local disk menu will
show; XP OS installation will be executed fluently;
( different platform, AHCI driver is different, follow MSI official version to do; )
So you can have a try; :cheesy:

It would be much better is MSI would enable AHCI switch in the BIOS.
Sorry but this is the most stupid decision inside MSI, as it locks out many operating systems.

How do you run OS/2 on this laptop? BeOS? DOS? Solaris?

I will forward this AGAIN to MSI, as leaving this switch out is silly....and it doesn't take more then 2 seconds for a BIOS programmer to put it back in.

I can not believe this. :biggthumbsdown:

I have the same problem ;
my config : Notebook GT735-020 + Win XP SP3
Bios version : A1721IMS -ver.1.0P (bios flashed with the latest available on web site 01dec2008).

I asked MSI Tech support but they answered me this yesterday :
"We've noticed that it's not possible to disable AHCI at the moment.
The only way to install Windows XP on the GT735 is to use the XP AHCI driver. You'll need a USB floppy drive to import the AHCI driver into the Windows setup. XP doesn't support any other device so the USB floppy drive is required.
Please be aware that XP support give become more less in the future and not all models will be able to support XP."

"Le fichier \X86\ahcix86.sys a provoqu? une erreur inattendue (18) ? la ligne 2113 dans d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c. Appuyez sur une touche pour continuer. "

=> translated it gives you :
"the file \X86\ahcix86.sys has caused an unexpected error (18) at line 2113 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c. Press a key to continue".

Thanks a lot Bosskiller and Bas for all the good work on this forum!!!
Alain

Done :) AHCI is no longer issue{Can be Disabled} for GT735 and GX730
and you can install XP as normal, without needs from floppy and no needs to load any drivers.{which seems to works very rare anyway}

Tested OK, thanks to Bas :emot-tip-wink: and MSI Europe :emot-tip-wink:

Thanx a lot for this patch, FINALLY I can install Windows XP on this notebook.

I tried 30 others ways from slipstream XP CD to original MSI new version BIOS, nothing worked. When I saw this patch it was the only thing I didn't try and it WORKED.

THANX, Hrvoje!
Well done :)

Thank you to all of you who contributed to this last flash update.  I had spoke with a MSI tech and he told me you cannot put xp on this machine.  See anything is possible when people like you put your mind to it.

Thanks for kind of words as well :)

P.S: The same BIOS can be used also for GT735 and GX730 and GX733
since they share and uses the same BIOS.

Luckily we have Svet (Bosskiller), he's a true BIOS magician!

MSI simply doesn't give the option, my guess M$ is putting the pressure on them.....silly the listen!

There is no reason for MSI to do this, other then pleasing Microsoft.

Hi, im trying to install xp on my newly purchased gt725 (074us)

i have disabled ahci in bios (thankfully, i guess i already have the updated bios) and installed xp alright
however, i cannot find the drivers to install. i have downloaded the vga+chipset drivers you have provided but it won't install except for the one in the SBDrv folder.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

No :D You have totally different notebook.
Not GT735, but GT725 :)

AMD vs Intel :D

Normal, you are trying to install wrong drivers not for your notebook :)
Use those instead: http://fae.msi.eu/index.php?dir=Notebook/GX720%20%281722x%29/Drivers%20%2B%20Utilities/XP%20driver%20test%20version/XP/
{GX720 shares the same drivers as your GT725 , almost :D}
Or those ==> http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1521
However VGA used is a different nVIDIA Geforce 9600M GT[GX720] vs ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4850.[GT725]
So use this VGA drivers for XP instead which has support for ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4850 used in your GT725:
http://www.donotargue.com/dna_ati/DNA-ATi_XP_9.2x32.exe
{11-03-2009}
* Based on the official Catalyst 9.2 drivers
:Added:
+ ATI RADEON MOBILITY HD 4850 support

Thank you so much for help. My bad for not checking the different specifications for those two laptops.

The link to the graphic card driver you provided won't open. it says it's forbidden.
can you provide any alternative download links?

thank you, and i will let you know how the gx720 drivers go once i finish downloading them.

I hate to necro this dead thread, but I can't seem to get the usb bios flash to work properly.  I followed every instruction in the guide, including turning off quick boot and enabling legacy usb.  I used the Stand Alone USB program to set up the bios flash software on my storage device, but when I reboot and choose to boot it from F11 menu it goes to a blank screen for about a minute and then loads windows.  Can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong, and I hate vista.

Thanks,
Robert

PS Sorry for the blocky paragraph
