Instillation Problems with GF4 TI4400

Took money I couldn't really spare to purchase a new video card. Other card started failing. So I recieve it today and put it in. Computer boots up with no problems. Then I install the video card drivers and the computer locks up during the reboot at the windows splash screen. I am running a P4 1.8 with 1024MB PC-800 RAM. In reading the boards I see that my power supply is only a max of 160w. Not enough power is most likely my problem? I have a friend that works at a computer repair place and can have him pick up a new power supply. Just want to be sure that this is most likely my problem. :)

Try www.newegg.com for the power supply. I like the Antec TruePower series and recently bought a 480 watts version.

I had similar problems when I tried to use an MSI GF4 Ti4600 and Windows XP Professional locks up at the splash screen. I also tried a Leadtek GF4 Ti4600 and got the same results. I had already upgraded my power supply from a Antec TruePower 330 watts to 480 but to no avail.

Turns out the problem was caused by my brand new Gigabyte GA-8IEXP rev. 1.2 motherboard not fully supporting AGP 2.0 voltage requirements required by the power hungry GF4 Ti4600 cards though their tech support would not confirm nor deny this. Even upping the core and AGP voltage via the BIOS didn't help.

I then bought an Intel D845EBG2L motherboard and the GF4 Ti4600 ran great :)

Trying to find a compatible power supply. Most places list the ratings individually, but not the combined +5 & +3.3V. So, +3.3V:24A and +5V:36A = ?? What should I be looking for? Larger power supplies that I have found listed a combined of over 200 but the 3.3v and 5v are always different. Are there individual levels I should look for?

no stores with anything higher than a 165w supply WTF, even a k6-2 350 has a 230w supply from IBM!! Upgrade the power supply that thing is good for running a P1 or k6-2 that's about it! ;)
