According to the following article, Intel has acknowledged its chipset contains a silicon error. (Meaning you can't just load a new driver to fix the problem)

http://business-video.tmcnet.com/news/2011/01/31/5278452.htm

Intel has stopped supplying the bad chipsets and has made changes to the silicon to correct the problem, then re-started production.

Is MSI going to recall the current P67-based motherboards to replace them with fixed chipsets?

Here's an update from an MSI rep in response to the article posted on HardOCP.

Hey guys,

Users will get 100% new boards from MSI. This was a notice sent out to editors to let them be aware we have received Intel's shipment and we are manufacturing new boards.

We didn't issue a press release because, well, we didn't really need this posted to you guys. However, Kyle wants to keep you guys updated and I'm 100% ok with that.

Board replacements will happen mid-March most likely.

If you have a questions, I'll be checking back on this thread.

I have read on the net that MSI intends to send out replacement P67 boards to  U.S.A customers without them sending their old board back first. This seems very unfair to the rest of the world, who have to send there board back and then wait God knows how long to get a new one sent out.

Again:

And second:  The exact recall procedures for the different regions of this planet are mostly still unknown and have yet to be decided on and made public.  This has not happened yet.  More official information about this can be expected at the end of february.  So, basically, there is no reason to speculate about this and to call things "unfair to the rest of the world" at this moment.

... and even if things turn out to be that way in non-US regions of the world, this is something everybody will have to live with after all.  However, currently, nothing has been really made public about the procedures.  Until that will happen, there is absolutely no reason to get, again, excited about speculations.

Here below you can find last news from MSI about B3 identification for  MSI motherboards:

I saw the press release about the B3 stepping on the P67 motherboards, and msi has all of the products on their site like they're being shipped out currently, yet I can't seem to find it anywhere
I really hope I don't have to wait until April to get a P67 motherboard, but if that ends up being the case so be it... Has anyone heard anything else regarding this?

Thanks,

Nolan

Let me quote the most important parts of the message michael4man has linked to in full detail:

How to get serviced
We want  you to have a MSI product which you can trust and rely on. This is why we have 2 choices for your purchased Intel 6 series based MSI products;

1.    Product swap
If you are confident and willing to wait we can swap your current Intel 6 series based product in a brand new MSI product which is based on the new B3 stepping of the Intel 6 series which solves the current SATA2 port issues. If you have an MSI 6 series mainboard you can ? for the short term - connect your storage devices to the safe white SATA3 ports on your mainboard, for more detailed instructions please click here.

This MSI product you get swapped will have similar or better specs. These new MSI products will become available in April and this way you will miss your product only for a very short period of time. You can identify the new products by a clear sticker on the color box. We will release details about this procedure before the end of February.

2.    Product return
If you are not confident about your current MSI based 6 series product MSI offers you the possibility to return the product to your point of purchase which will credit you. Please make sure to back-up your personal data.
Hotline information
If you have any questions about the Intel 6 series chipset issue or if you are not sure which alternative SATA ports to use on your mainboard, or you want to know how to return your product you can always contact the MSI Hotlines in your region. Our people are ready to support you with your questions because your satisfaction is very important for us.

Tiger Direct has washed their hands of the matter and will not, under any circumstances, refund my motherboard purchase.

Is there someone here who has a contact at MSI that they could talk to concerning this?

I recieved my RMA number to send back my P67 GD65 board in an e-mail a couple days ago. It also stated I will be getting a pre paid return label to ship back my old board. I did not give my credit card so I am not getting the advanced replacement. When they get my old board, the new one will ship back to me. I am going to try and get some "print screens" of all my BIOS settings and such so I can hopefully plug all my stuff in and have it work right away.

Has anyone else in the US received their replacement motherboard yet?

Where did you get your RMA, from MSI, the store you bought it from? Plenty of people have received their replacement B3 MB. It just depends on the source of the RMA. newegg has been pretty good with it.

MSI e-mailed me the RMA number a few days ago. I bought the board at FRY's in Burbank, CA and they told me to just go through MSI so I registered on their web page back in the early March. I don't have the exact date handy.

i have receive my email form msi send i back, but my web store have already prosecing my change!!
check for your email for people in north america!!

Looks like for European end users, advanced replacement policy is not available.
Any European end user out there who's got cross-shipping?

Just wanted to note a good experience with the recall.

My B3 board arrived 12 days ago under the advance replacement programme. I arranged for the B2 board to be collected last Friday to give me plenty of time if I wasn't happy the B3 (I am) and the full refund was made to my credit card today. Thanks MSI, a pretty painless experience for me.

Nobody ever said that it would be.
I really don't see the point in your last comment that looks pretty useless to me.

I am very eager to understand why MSI offers this replacement policy only to some of their customers (US ones).
I can't see technical reasons for not offering it outside the US. Do you?

Any answer a forum member would give would be pure speculation. Nobody here, even the Admins & Mods are MSI employees. Ask MSI.

:users:

Added: An Admin or Mod may be familiar enough with MSI RMA & such policies, that they can give some kind of a reasonable explanation. The B2 to a replacement B3 board is a unique situation in itself.
