While we can operate our Type-C port oral scanner device with the MSI Z790-A motherboard, we cannot operate it with the MSI Z790-P motherboard. The Type-C features seem to be the same. What could be the reason? It seems like it is not getting enough power.

Let me explain. We are using intraoral scanner. It is medical device for dentistry. So this device connect to desktop pc with usb type c port. But this type c port needs to give enough power to scanner. We have two motherboards. One of them is msi z790-p wifi motherboard and the other one is msi z790-a wifi motherboard. They have same type c port. But we can't run the scanner with z790-p motherboard.
Type-c 3.2 gen 2x2

Ok I am blind, there's P and A motherboards 😂
They both have 1x USB 20Gbps Type C (Rear) so not entirely sure.
Have you checked if both systems use the same driver versions?
Have you updated BIOS on the non working one?

You are probably correct when you said the scanner is not getting enough power. The power output of USB-C ports is usually not specified. One motherboard may supply just enough power and the other does not. The solution is to use a powered USB-C hub, and make sure the hub supports the speed you require.
