Is Cool'n'Quiet Enabled Yet on K8T Neo Athlon 64?

Very impressed with my K8T neo but I need some help with cool'n'quiet.

Is cool'n'quiet active yet on the K8T neo? If it is how do I get it working? I've installed the latest XP driver from the AMD website (there is a cool'n'quiet driver there for Win2k and ME only so I assume the XP driver must inlcude the support or something) but I have never seen the frequency drop below the 2GHz level.

I'd really like to get cool'n'quiet running and the PC in question is acting as an HTPC so I'd be happy for it to run @ 800MHz or so when just watching television/movies and then kick up to 2GHz+ for games and encoding.

Additionally the mannual fan adjustment doesn't seem to support large fans. My Zalman fan has a max speed of ~2800 rpm but the lowest the adjustment allows is 2400rpm. I'd like it to go down to 1300rpm when not under load (and possibly even lower if the 800MHz low voltage mode can kick in).

Cheers

Alex

It's always enabled as long as the CoreCell chip is working. CoreCenter software provides you the interface to override some of its functions. The rests are OK by itself.

Hmmm, shouldn't the processor show less than 2000MHz when idle then? I've used the dynamic overclocking feature and that works fine so I assume my corecell is fine.

Also, is there any tweak to alter the fan range? 2800rpm to 2400rpm isn't great.

Thanks

Alex

Yes, change your fan that has the range of 0 to 1,000,000rpm with operating voltage of 5V to 12V :D :D It's your fan doing the 2800rpm to 2400rpm, you shouldn't be expecting much less than that.

I have enabled it in CoreCenter however I don't see the speed drop at all.. I do see it increase sometimes momenteraly. It stays steady at 2001MHz then WROOM to 2048MHz for a second and then back to 2001/2 MHz.

I have gotten the new AMD driver and enabled "minimal power management" in Power Control Panel.

Not that it matters a lot to me but if I have CPU that supports this feature it would be cool to see it working.

I have gotten AMD CPU ID and CPU ID but neither can give me the stepping of the CPU and I didn't write it down before I isntalled the system. Any way of getting the stepping without taking the heatsink off?

but how many background programmes are you running

way i read it with xp its going to be hard for it to kick in if it adds 200 mhz for every things running

According to the MSI document, Cool'n'Quiet is supported on production model Athlon 64 CPUs so long as the motherboard and BIOS support it. However, it is apparently not supported by engineering sample processors. So long as the processor model number ends in a "0" it should support Cool'n'Quiet. In fishyuk's case, however, it seems the model number of the processor he purchased at retail does not end in a "0" and MSI's instructions for enabling Cool'n'Quiet have no effect

might apply as well

The new version(1.5.8.0) at least enabled my slider on the left side. :D
I can adjust the FSB just fine now. The coolnquiet doesnt seem to have any effect yet. I guess I must have an engineering sample chip but I'm not gonna yank of the heat sink to check the number. The overclocking feature is mainly what I wanted functional. Now if we could get a new bios with agp/pci lock I would test the FSB a little. I did some benchmarks at 210x10 and it was stable. BRING ON THE NEW BIOS!!!!! :like:

where did you get this 15 5 8 verstion of Core Center.

BTW if I have Battlefield 1942 running and Core Center 1550 I get a hard lock ALWAYS. just a matter of time, without it the game will run forever.
