Issue with Audigy's?

Windows seems to be detecting my soundcard fine (Audigy LS)

but Creative Labs installer isn't detecting it at all.

I have a friend who works for Creative and he tried everything he knew that could be a typical problem...

(Yes I did check the card in another computer and it was fine)

Was wondering if anyone else experienced any problems like this?

i think i have seen other problems with audigy's on these boards, perhaps search for audigy

did u try it in another PCI slot, and what other PCI devices do you have?

Bad news....

You can forget about you sound card. You seem to have met the infamous EEPROM bug. I met it myself after having successfully installed my Audigy Platinum. The EEPROM erased itself and I reprogrammed it (a real pain in the neck) only to see my EEPROM being erased again after an ESCD update.

The irony of it all is that my Audigy worked perfectly for 2 years on my Abit KR7A-RAID motherboard (the one that is supposed to create that problem) only to see my EEPROM erased once I put the sound card on the MSI K8T-NEO. One thing is that ACPI was disabled on my Abit, which might has saved my card from what I understand...

In the end, I finally bought an Audigy 2 ZS and I'm hating Creative a bit more every time I see my (now useless) LiveDrive. :angryfire: No problem so far.

Thanks for the reply :) I ended up digging up an old SB Live Value and that worked in about 30 seconds after I was messing with this for 2 days.

I had my audigy in 3 different PCI ports, and all of them, at first, seemed to work, but no sound from windows, and when updating with creative, they'd say they couldn't find an audigy card installed

this is not lookin good....eeprom eh? yeah....

I HAVE SAME PROBLEMS WITH AUDIGY SOUND CARD, IN WINDOWS MY CARD NOT INSTALLED PACK DRIVER OF CREATIVE WHY NOT DETECT.

the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro worked fine, but there was one snag for me. Don't forget thet the external I/O hub requires power, so you need a PSU molex connector free to attach to the card (like the new GFX cards). If you don't it'll install and detect but you'll get no sound, and you'll get no power to the hub. I can't believe I missed it first time round... must have been dozin' :sleep:

i believe a work around for the windows sees the card but the drivers wont install from the cd is

download the latest drivers .. and install manually (EAX4 supported web update drivers) ... once pc has booted .. u can run the install cd and install all the relevent software .. or do a live update @ creative website

not sure why the prob happens .. seems to if u install the card after getting xp installed .. anyhow try that and see if it works ..

There are still more problems

Manually install the drivers then install the software from the original cd.

But you can NOT update the software by downloading the updates for the software. So you are stuck with the old software.

u can download the latest drivers manually from creatives website .. u dont have to use autoupdate .. then install , reboot .. then u can run the cd ... that will overwrite the driver .. then u can use the autoupdate from the web to get everything upto date ..

u need to manually download and save the EAX4 web drivers .. and run them manually to install

I had many problems with my Audigy 2 (bulk). I tried to install the drivers from the CD I got with the card, but halfway through the install I got a BSOD, and after that my Windows stopped reading CD's and gave me BSOD saying "Local_machine_check error" randomly. I reinstalled Windows, got the EAX4 driver from Creative and everything works ok now.

if someone can post a step-by-step setup for installing drivers manually... it would be appreciated... :)

I'll resinert my audigy tonite and try it out as well and see if I can get it to work w/o the autoupdater thinger... problem I have had is finding the files themselves...

is there a site that has the drivers w/o checking for audigy being installed?

first step ... download the latest EAX4 drivers from www.creative.com .. u need to manually download them but can still install the auto downloader if u so wish ... save the file somewhere easy to get at on ur hdd .. shut pc down .. install sound card .. i suggest slot 3 is most compatable according to most hardware ppl ... reboot pc go into bios .. turn off onboard sound ac97 codec ... u can make sure spread spectrum is enabled and maybe increase the pci latency to 64 or 96 too .. boot into windows .. find the file u downloaded .. it should be an exe .. cancel any hardware found windows from windows ... and run the downloaded exe .. once installed reboot pc
when u get back into winxp the sound should be working minus any the add-ons like control panel .. so just insert the creative cd .. let it run and install as u have in the past .. when its finished and u reboot it should all be working .. if u have problems with the core centre software saying hardware monitor not found .. run msconfig .. disable the startup entry .. sbdetdrv .. should solve that conflict

if all is well at that ponit ... goto creative web page and run the live update .. and get it all uptodate .. everything should then run ok ... i hope.. dont blame me it doesnt .. lol .. but it worked for me when reinstalling the sbaudiology after testing winxp64

well thats basically what I have been doing all this time :(

but the problem is when I try and install the exe... it unpacks and then says it can't find an audigy device in my system...

I'll give it a go and post here when I have it installed to let everyone know about it... IF it works :D

will do it tomorrow...

I have an audigy 2 in mine and it works flawlessly in 6.1 surround. I am running the factory bios though is anyone that's having the problem running a newer bios version?

I had the same problem. I could get some limited Windows XP support for my Audigy, but all the Creative utilities/drivers came up and told me there was no audigy detected. I tried the two lower slots (5 & 6?) with the same result. Didn't try 3. I went through at least 4 or 5 iterations of uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling to no avail. Plus, the built-in sound had some real issues with my microphone. Finally I bagged it all and bought an Aurilium.

I would've gone with Creatives USB solution, which generally gets better reviews, but I've come to dislike them after this incident and many more over the years, so I went with Philips. The installation was so easy compared to what I'd been going through with the Audigy that I almost broke down and cried! :biggrin: The only issue I had is that plugging the thing into my D-Link hub didn't make my USB mouse happy, so I plugged it into the D-Bracket USB port and it was smooth sailing from there on out.
