Hi there first post here so please bear with me. My son recent assembled a new PC using a GTX1650 Aero ITX Graphics Card. The mother board is MSI B450M Pro VDH Max.

We are having terrible issues with the PC Crashing every time we try to download any driver from Nvidia for the card.
The system is very stable using Microsoft Basic Visual Display Adapter.
However any update to that driver crashes the pc and will only reboot to safe mode.
Trying to boot normally we just get a black screen with the monitor displaying "no signal"
Roll back the driver to the Microsoft basic one and everything is OK again.
However without the proper drivers we cant get the best out of the card of the value from it that we should be getting.

Im no expert on this by any stretch but my take on it is that when booting with the nvidia driver the computer is doing everything it should except outputting a video signal

Has anybody got any experience of this or suggestions as to how to deal with it. Don't think there is any issued with compatibility of the components in the build

Thanks in advance

Mike

Hello Mike,

If the GPU passes POST, OS will work fine with it using the Basic Adapter driver. The driver simply uses the GPU to send the display signal to the monitor/tv/other kind of screen; there is no kind of hardware acceleration or any other use of the render or compute capabilities of the GPU.

First, the card requires a 300W PSU. I highly doubt that you are using one with lesser wattage, but still recheck.
As the card in question does not have any "external" power connectors, I would suggest to remove it from the PCIe slot and firmly reinsert it; the card seems to feature some sort of "lock-in" mechanism on the right side of the PCIe port, make sure that is set to the expected position.
If the issue stays, the fastest option is to check with another GPU (which is known to be working); if the other GPU works, then the 1650 is likely defective; if the other GPU doesn't, then the PCIe slot may be defective.

Hi savormix,

I have a question, does fan will spin (in the beginning) as you switch on the system unit? I have GTX1650 Aero ITX Graphics Card.

I having no signal in my monitor. I try all the troubleshoot I know, reseating ram, reseating GPU. I tried using other GPU (known to be working) but the fan is not spinning when switching on the system unit.

Does PCIe slot can repair o replace?

PS: the system unit is working because the NumLock on keyboard is working.

Thank you
