i have an athlon 64 3400+, msi k8t neo fis2r, 120 gb seagate barracuda, corsair xms series pc3200 512MB ram(with black heatspreader), gainward geforce fx5700ultra, 500w allied power supply. I'm having terrible framerate problems when i'm playing games. It doesn't matter what game i'm playing...i've been playing unreal tournament as a tester game. At first I thought i had a bad video card so i sent that back. I'm still having the same problem. I've flashed my bios, sp1a, all the newest chipset drivers, set my RAM timings, newest video card drivers (53.03), everything. I don't know what is going on. My games run at the same frame rate at 640x480 then when they are on 1024x768. When I turn vsynch on, i'd say about half or maybe more of the time i'd have bad frame rate, when I turn vsynch off my games play reallllly fast. It seems to jump in and out of normal rate of play. I was talking to my friend and he thought it was the timing chip on my motherboard. I'm on my last straw and i'm about to send this board back for a replacement.

Don't know what the prob is, but drivers 53.04 is availble now, also Gainward have their own driver 53.03 on their site, If your card is like mine you can set most things in experttool, including updating to the latest driver and card bios.
Does the same happen in the cards safe mode. Sounds like a display adaptor prob, what does the device manager show in display adaptors.

Try downloading and installing the latest VIA 4in1 drivers. My GF4 card was locked in PCI mode and not running AGP 8X with similar results. Even though I had installed the 4in1 drivers it took a second install for them to recogize the card as AGP 8X. I can't explain but it worked.

I installed my 4 in 1 drivers. I have the 53.03 drivers, my device manager says pci bus 1, device 0, function 0. I've done everything I can possibly think of.

Check to see if the AGP is set to 8x. Not sure where you can find that in the Nvida drivers. Check to see if hardware accel is set to max. You might also check in the device manager that there are no conflicts and that your GFX's drivers are properly loaded. Run dxdiag from the run prompt in your start menu to check DirectX vid settings.

no directx issues, runs at 8x agp..on the EXPERTool that came with the gainward card I went to information and it says on bus type AGP 8X sideband addressing. Hardware acceleration set at max. No conflicts, I did fresh install of xp, so there couldn't be any conflicts.

During the install of the 4in1 drivers elect to uninstall AGP driver. Then reinstall it with the 4in1 driver after the reboot. Are you letting windows install your driver or are you using the driver's install program?

I dont know what you mean by am i letting windows install it...but i'm using live update to download it then it automatically installs itself. I'll try that uninstall the agp thing on the 4 in 1 but I doubt it'll do anything seeing as how i've probably reinstalled windows 4 or 5 times and installed the 4 in 1 drivers each time to no avail. I really think my mobo's agp slot is bad or something on my mobo is bad. I was using a 300W psu for awhile, that might have done something to the board.

I also use a gainward card, problems with nvidea device drivers, use either the Powerforce driver 53.03 or 4, or use the gainward driver from experttool - info - expert update. remember this card has dual bios, at least mine has, you could try latest bios from expert update. In the CMOS bios, Advanced chipset features set the AGP mode either to 8x (if shown, comes with latest driver) or auto.

I am using the 53.03 from the gainward expertool. Gainward isn't the only brand i've had problems with too. I first had a powecolor 9600xt...and now that i have the 5700 ultra i am still having the same problem.

Now that you say that I believe it's your MB. Check the AGP voltage, I'm not sure what the voltage tolerances are on your nvidia, but auto may not be the best setting for that GFX card.
