K8T Neo-FIS2R / Kingston KVR400X64C25/256

2DIMM

As a first time poster my apolgies if this has been covered elsewhere - I have read most of the posts on this forum but found no specific reference. Please just point me in the right direction if i am wrong!

I bought the Kingston KVR400X64C25/256 modules because:

a) they were listed by MSI on the list of tested Ram
b) they were on Kingston's list for the K8T NEO &
c) they were in stock. However...

If installed in DIMM 2 & 3 (as per MSI tested RAM pdf) the system crashes on trying to load Windows. DIMM 1 & 2 'works' if that allows for 8 or 9 restarts/day. I tried 1 & 3 to see if that improved the situation, but if anything it was worse. I have tried increasing the RAM voltage to 2.6 but there is no discernable difference. Upping the TRCD to 4 makes little or no difference.

Memtest86+ initially found no errors (16 hrs/93 passes) but when left running for a week came up with 10 errors (8 in test 6, 2 in test 4). MemTest (http://hcidesign.com/memtest/) gives me an average of 10 errors for 300% pass.

I'm now trying running the memory at 2.7v (within Kingston's ?.25v range).

In the meantime, has anyone run this memory without any problem - i.e. is it a simple case of faulty memory? Equally, has anyone had similar problems and found a solution?

thanks

FWIW, the 512MB sticks
KVR400X64C3A/512 met Infineon HY25D256800BT-5B
are excellent (rated CL3, stable also @CL2.5)
In DIMM 1 & 2.

I've just ordered two Kingston KVR400X64C25/512 modules... Damn. Hope they work. Also thought the C25 would be ok, since they have the exactly same timings as the C3A that work. The C3 does not work because they have higher latency (by 5 ns) than the other two. Now you got me nervous.. *awaits shipment*

Good luck! I would love it to be 'merely' faulty memory sticks or even motherboard. Keep me posted. Just for the record, 2.7v is no more stable (for me at least).

Yep....I'm running the KVR400X64C25/256 in DIMM slots 1 and 2 without any problems. Just got my new system running last Thursday. Maybe you've got a defective module. Try swapping modules in the slots and be sure to insert them evenly. Also check the gold contacts to see if any of them are slightly mis-aligned.

I've read posts at other sites where one guy had modules in slots 1 and 3 to finally get a clean boot....hmmm!

Finally...I will be switching to two Kingmax MPXC22D-38KT3R/512 to achieve one gig. I hear that when you install three memory modules the mhz drops to 333.

Hi,

Sorry to say, but as soon as you get errors in memtest, no matter after how many hours, you need to try other memory.
As your memory seems to be unstable....errors in memtest are a NO-NO :nono:

I have a KVR400X64C3/512 memory on my machine.
It seems to run stable at 2.5-3-3-6 @400, even though the mem is rated 3-4-4
I run through memtest86+ and got no errors. I only run it through once, I'll try a longer test as soon as I have time.

:confused2: hmmm! What if memtest, Prime95 etc. detect no problem over lengthy periods when sticks are individually tested in DIMM1 - as well as the system not crashing once - , but boot failures/memory dumps etc. abound when same sticks are individually placed at 2 or 3? Is this still a memory issue?

For what it's worth I have found Kingston's technical support more than helpful.

Just reporting that my board booted fine with two Kingston KVR400X64C25/512. Haven't run memtest86+ yet because it's 1.15 in the morning, but I'll do that tomorrow.

I've been running memtest86+ on my two Kingston KVR400X64C25/512 for 7 hours now and I've had no errors at 200MHz (DDR400) CAS 2.5-3-3-8. I'm using a Neo K8T motherboard with 1.2 BIOS, a 3000+ and a Antec Sonata case (+3.3V@28A +5V@35A +12V@18A) with a max output 360 watts. I know everyones says you should run memtest for at least a day, but without a single error on 1GB in 7 hours I'm starting to feel pretty good.

mogren-

I had been running a pair of the same modules for the first week I had my system, and have not had any problems...after all, they are approved for use in this mobo. I've run 3dMark2003 and played my NASCAR 2003 game without any hiccups!

Since then, I've moved the two sticks into DIMM slots 2 and 3, then added a 512 stick of Kingmax into DIMM 1. The system is very stable so far, and running comfortably at 205MHz!

I'm also a first time builder and sometimes struggling :undecided:

I use Kingston KVR400X64C3/512, one in every slot for a gran total of 3 (1.5 Gb). and it works fine, except for the fact that..................according to memtest86 it only runs at DDR-333

Sounds like everyone has different issues with this memory stuff...but you can only try combinations of memory until you have to look elsewhere in your system for the right combination!

I know it's expensive...but if you're getting 333MHz in your memtest with 3 sticks of 512, maybe you can borrow a couple of 1gigs to see what results you get by only utilizing 2 DIMM slots.

Make sure you have your BIOS set to "limit"
and your MHz set to DDR400 in the Frequency/Voltage Control

:biggthumbsup:I was having problems with a generic pc3200 2/512 on my system, I was never able to get the ram speed above 333 so I took them back and picked up some Kingston Hyper X KHX3500/512 and the system is rock solid, I have the ram speed at 400 clean and the fsb at 210 (haven?t pushed it any farther yet)
