When you want to use the K9ND Speedster board, do note the following:

There are two versions:
K9ND Speedster    - MS9652
K9ND Speedster2  - MS9661

The K9ND Speedster (MS9652) supports:
1. Dual Core AMD Opteron Socket F (1207) CPU's natively. This means that the board is ready to support those CPU's out-of-the-box.
2. Quad Core AMD Opteron Socket F (1207) CPU's, but only with an 8mb bios chip. Without an 8mb bios chip, the board will NOT POST. You can obtain the 8mb chip from your nearest MSI service center.

the K9ND Speedster2 (MS9661) supports:
Dual and Quad Core AMD Opteron CPU's with 115W TDP max. You do not need any physical adjustments to the board, like you need with the Speedster (MS9652).

Do note that the MS9652 does support quad core CPU's, but it cannot utilize the full functionality of these CPU's. The Enhanced AMD PowerNow!? technology with Independent Dynamic Core Technology is NOT supported. It is supported on the Speedster2.

If you look on page 2-4 of the original Speedster manual, it indicates the recommended cooler
for CPU's up to 95W and another recommended cooler for CPU's up to 120W - They advise us to
make sure the cooling meets the amount of heat being rejected from the CPU's - I think the
Barcelona SE models are 120W - 125W each

For what it's worth now, the speedster 1 with 8MB bios supports ALL Barcelona quadcores I tested. and that's all of them. (8346he to 2360se)

I still have this server with K9ND speedster in it (8 MB BIOS v 2.10), had Barcelona quad-core Opterons in it, I just got a pair of Opteron 2382 2.6 GHz Shanghai CPUs  and they work fine in this motherboard.  I guess this Speedster1 motherboard doesn't support all the whiz-bang power saving features of the Shanghai 45 nm CPUs, but the CPUs themselves work fine.

8 cores running at 2.6 GHz with bigger on-chip caches, you know, this server is still good for a while yet.  Runs Windows Server 2008 pretty well, perfect for a small business.
