Keyboard Issue with MSI Creator Z16 - Certain Keys Not Working Intermittently‏

Hello everyone,

I’m experiencing an issue with the keyboard on my MSI Z16 laptop.

Some keys occasionally stop working, and the affected keys are:
The letter i
The left Shift key
The numbers 6 and 0
These keys sometimes function normally, but more often than not, they stop responding.

I would appreciate any suggestions or solutions to fix this issue. Has anyone encountered something similar?

Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem with my Creator Z16 A12UET, unfortunately one of the buttons that fail me is the power button and I spend hours trying to turn on my laptop.
I am buying a new keyboard to replace it, I hope that's the problem and not something on the motherboard.
Now I am checking if the keyboard of the Z16 A11UET model is the same as the Z16 A12UET, because I have only found keyboards for A11UET.

Well that’s sound bad!
MSI should clarify this issue because it’s an expensive laptop, and they need to take action before they lose our trust. I’m not even sure if the problem is with the keyboard or the hardware, so make sure to check before buying a new keyboard ..

Kindly recommend to try EC reset first. shutdown the laptop and unplug the AC > long press the power button for over 25 sec > plug in the AC and power on the laptop.
As you mentioned that the keys sometimes function normally, but sometimes not, are they fail to work in specific software? Or they could not work even in Notepad?
And how you fix the problem when they stop responding? Restart the laptop or any other ways?
Or did you connect any external keyboard or any devices when the problem occurs?

Thank you for your reply

Sadly it doesn’t work everywhere in the software, not just in Notepad.
When the keys do work, they work suddenly without me doing anything, and then the problem returns!

I did the EC reset as you suggested, and the keys started working again, but after about five minutes, they stopped working and the same problem returned again ..

hey everybody :) are there any news about the problems with the o (and other) keys? I´m struggling with the same situation. My Z16 has problems with the O and the F8 key. Sometimes working sometimes not. Reset EC, deinstall/install driver/software.... but malfunction comes randomly back. Next step would be RMA but i don´t really think its an hardware problem. On a second drive I run Linux Mint 22 and there I didn´t get any problems till now. Maybe coincidence?! Would be really great if somebody can share your experience. Thank you guys :)

Did anyone find a solution to this problem, My creator Z 16 laptop Wouldn't turn on Unless I do a power reset and connect the charger. There are several keys in the keyboard that stopped working

Hi. So im having the same issue on my Z12UET with the O and =+ keys. It works when it feels like. However i only pick up that it is not working when I'm zooming in and out on adobe photoshop or InDesign (which is soon after i turn on my pc). So i then close the software reboot and it starts working again, in photoshop and Indesign. sometimes it would randomly stop again and start a few min later, if i don reboot. so I'm not sure if adobe is causing it, but its damn frustrating, especially considering the cost of these pc's.

Try to update BIOS to the latest version on MSI website or try to do EC reset.
To do EC reset: shutdown the laptop and unplug the AC > long press the power button for over 25 seconds > plug in the AC and boot on the laptop
Does the issue only happen while using the Adobe software? Are other keys working normally when the issue happens?

I have just done the BIOS update and EC Reset and I am still having the issue. It Is not an Adobe issue (although I thought it was).
I currently have this thread open on Google Chrome. When I started typing this response the O and =+ keys were not working, I had to use the on-screen keyboard for the O. and now it working properly again. It seems we all started having this issue recently this year, so could it be a software issue?

Get into BIOS system > Security > user password, try to type those keys in the password bar, and check if the keys could work.
*Remind, you don't need to really set up the password in BIOS.
If they are not working even in BIOS, the issue is from the keyboard itself and you would need to contact MSI service for assistance.

Hi I also have this problem, with backspace and comma keys intermittently not working. I tried all the suggested solutions but the problem always reappear. It's a software issue, because in the BIOS the keys works flawlessly...

For the last try, check in device manager and uninstall the keyboard device, select "action-scan for hardware changes" to rescan the keyboard device.
If the keys don't work even in NotePad or the Windows search bar, you may need to try restoring the system...
Or just contact MSI service to check if the keyboard has any potential problems.
