Update All 500 Series Boards should now have a KOMBO Strike ready bios

MSI have implemented KOMBO on 500 series motherboards, so user can Undervolt the Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU
Bios can be gotten from the Moderator BIOS site
Or from MSI Motherboard support section.
See this Topic for detail

So far the Following board have the BIOS for Kombo Strike on the Moderators Bios Site

It is unknown if KOMBO STRIKE BIOS will be released on the MSI Website

also latest bios lets you set per core does on x570 unify , saves you having to use and setup software in windows

you may just got unlucky with CPU silicone lottery my 5800x3d had it for few months and not had any issues at kombo level 3 , using 32gb ram 2 sticks of 16gb at 3600 cl16
Yeah probably I lost the silicone lottery...seems only combo strike profile 1 works for me having stability on the system without rebooting. Now it makes me wanting to rip out the cpu and buy a new one

Can all ways apply to AMD for RMA just tell them the CPU is not performing as expected.

Hello, new to this Forum and got a few questions regarding Combo Strike.

It's supposed to increase performance, which it definitely did with all Kombo Strike Levels (13750 Multi Score in Cinebench to ~15000 Score with KS3).

But at the same time, it totally increased the CPU Temp (roughly by 8ยฐ from 73.8ยฐ Peak to 81.9ยฐ) in the Multi Benchmark.

It did lower the Temperature for the single benchmark tho by ~10ยฐ (54.1ยฐ to 44.7ยฐ)

Am I misunderstanding something here? Watching people doing PBO2 and KS Reviews / Videos, it seemed like that it should lower the temps more then anything (for the same performance or 1-3% increases).

My System is as follows.

MSI MAG X570S TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI
BIOS 7D54v14 - AMD AGESA-1.2.0.7
Also tested with
BIOS 7D54v152(Beta version) - AMD AGESA 1.2.0.8
AMD Ryzen 9 5800X3D
Deepcool AK620 for cooling the CPU with Arctic MX-6
ASUS RTX 3060 Ti TUF Gaming
G.Skill DIMM 32 GB DDR4-3600 Kit
2TB ADATA XPG 8200 Pro
2TB ADATA XPG 8200 Pro
Seasonic Focus GX 750 Watts
Windows 10 Pro

You can set a Voltage Offset set it to to -0.1000v

It is pretty normal your upping the clock speed in all core load

Kombo Strie is designed to give you a performance boost in all core workloads
and will likely increase temps but will also reduce temps in single core workloads
Please see the results from the previous testing

This testing was done with a 360 AIO water cooler

Yes I've noticed, hitting 4.450 roughly 100% of the time in Cinebench Testing (KS3) compared to Stock.

I was just somehow under the impression the thermal would go lower too or at least stay the same, at least that's what many Videos out there showed by just using Kombo Strike.

Or in this reddit post from months ago.

Will try the offset later on and see how that works out.

Looks like Single core test score

I wouldn't say that was a Single Core Cinebench, that increase would be 30% gains. Considering my Single Cinebench was somewhere around 1500-1600 points if I recall right.

From the reddit post:

Cinebench R23
Benchmarkt test

Setting 1st pass 2nd pass
Default 14686 14641
Kombo 1 14698 14732
Kombo 2 14885 14961
Kombo 3 15068 15049

As I said before KS3 gave me a score increase of roughly 1250 (13750 to 15000) for Multi Core in CB23, but it totally heated up the CPU that just using a KS Setting and not doing anything else, wouldn't be worth it (and I better don't talk about KS1/2 because that got me close to thermal throttling).

my experience just setting kombo strike to level 3, dropped power from around 133w to 116w and temps from 85c to 79c and increased CB23 multi 143xx to 15xx

If I put computer to sleep and try again it futher impoves
power 106-110w . 75c CB23 multi 153xx

Redid my testing.

Default is as follows.
CB 23 Score: 13845
Stable 4.125Mhz at 74ยฐ
Vcore 1.175
Wattage 115
PPT 115
TDC 75
EDC 125

With Kombo Strike 3 enabled:
SB 23 Score: 14888
Stable at 4.375Mhz at 81ยฐ
Vcore 1.200
Wattage 128
PPT 125
TDC 83
EDC 137

This doesn't seem right, trying to use Kombo Strike Level 1 or 2 ramps up the Vcore, wattage etc even further (basically starting to throttling the CPU).

why dont you leave PPT/TDC/EDC on default / stock and test
why are you increasing PPT to 125 for kombo ?

everything stock mine uses 133w during CB23, with only changing kombo level 3 it reduces to 116w, lower temps. sustains higher clock, increases cb23 score

I didn't, that was the values the CPU used according to HWInfo, I added them in, in case someone from MSI Reads over it and needs those values to confirm various things.

So it used higher PPT, TDC, EDC, Voltage, Watt and everything with active Kombo Strike 3 active (and even higher for Level 1/2 of Kombo Strike).

Runs at a 0.025 higher voltage, uses 13 more watt, pushed the PPT 10 points higher, the TDC by 8 and EDC by 12 just to sustain whatever Kombo Strike is telling the BIOS / CPU to do.

weird thats the opposite of what its meant to do whole point of kombo level 3 is -30 all cores drops voltage to cores so lowers power , temps so it can sustain higher clocks = higher performance

That's what I thought.

Checking various sources (Reddit, YouTube, etc), it usually seems that people get lowered Temperature with the same clocks or boosted ones, depending on the Level of Kombo Strike (or PBO2 Tuner as alternative).

In a few cases better clocks with basically the same temperature / watt / etc tho, but in my case it completely shoots the CPU to thermalcity (with Kombo Strike 2 going for 1.225 volt and 130 watt even lol), which seems weird and I haven't really found anything similar on that topic anywhere yet (95% people are praising the lowered temps / better performance).

The bios that I am running now is 7D52v151(Beta version)...I see that the supported bios for 5800x3d is 7D52v12 and the description says :
- Update to AMD ComboAm4v2PI 1.2.0.6c - Support AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
Is it possible that this older bios version is for the 5800x3d and the one that I am using now makes these problems with combo strike ?

Could be more options opened up for Kombo strike in the new bios version 1.2.0.8 as 1.2.0.6c was the first to have it and was just the Kombo Option only without any power increase More Options have opened with Bios 1.2.0.8 You may get better results using the Curve optimiser instead. It should be under PBO setting in the bios

I updated to the new bios now from beta that was before. Now I am running kombo strike profile 2 and the AXMP at 3400mhz till now the system is stable no restarts...hope it's gonna stay stable

You mean that Kombo Strike and Curve Optimizer can give other results (assuming the same settings in both options)?

Instead of setting all cores to -10, -20 or -30 you should now be able to set each core to a different -offset offering more stability overall

Thats what i touhgt. Both the same but CO can do more because of more detailed configuration.

How to indicate if need different settings on specific cores? My system is stable and efficient using KS3 but not all cores are reaching max frequency during Cinebench for example

Then that will be it if not most times you will get a PC crash during the cineabench run or when Idle

I could set mine to -30 on my 5900 on all but for core three it had to be on -25 or above or the system would fall over

And not all cores will have identical boost speeds some will be better than others
