Good to see the forum is back again! :)

I am using a RAID-0 array as my only harddisk. It works fine with 4-in-1 4.38, but when I upgrade to 4-in-1 4.40 it crashes with BSODs on pagefile.sys en scsiport.sys.

(Running Win2k + SP2)

Does anyone have similar problems and know what improvements the 4.40 brings (and should I install it at all)?

I'm sorry for you.
I've the same situation, more or less, and just recently upgraded the BIOS from 5.3 to 5.4 and the VIA drivers from 4.38 to 4.40 without a glitch.

The only thing I noticed, is a decrease in the performances, already lousy, of the disk array.
I haven't perceived/measured any other benefit from upgrading to 4.40 (neither with Sandra nor with PCMarks2002)

By the way, did you remove 4.38 and, after, install 4.40 or just upgraded?

Ciao
Fabrizio

Some people with WIndows 2000 will have problems with the new 4.40s - not everyone, just some people (strangely enough)

VIA is currently investigating the matter

In the meantime, do yourself a huge favor, go back to v4.38

Remeber, with VIA drivers and BIOS revisions, newer doesnt always mean better !!!! For now the 4.38s are tried and proven and are solid. As such there really is no need to go any higher. Maybe in the future VIA will release a better driver pack, but for now 4.38 seems to work best for the highest perentage of people

Stuff like this happens, VIA will occasionally release a driver set that is buggy for some people and great for others :( (the 4.36s and 4.37 revision 1 come to mind)

I tried several things: just upgrading to 4.40, removing 4.38. rebooting and installing 4.40, and installing 4.40 to a 'virgin' win2k disk image.

Same trouble....

Bart, did you read my last post? Just use the 4.38s. They are fast and stable on Windows 2000. youre not going to be missing anything significant with the 4.38s

For Windows 2000 make sure you use the following order

1. Install Windows 2000
2. Download and install Windows 2000 Service Pack 2
3. Download and install Direct X 8.1
4. Now install the 4 in 1 drivers
5. Now go back to Windows Update and get all other recommended and critical updates
6. Then load video drivers second to last
7. Then load sound drivers as the very last

Theres many different ways to install and update Windows 2000, but the above method works fine for me every time :)

Just stick with the 4.38s for now and forget the 4.40s since youre having trouble

Good Luck

Go Mr.Steveo!!!

:p

I'm also having a bunch of probs with 4.40(a)p3 or whatever it's called... I just have to take the time to go back to the 4.38s... LOL, I've just been spending a LOT of time working on a Linux based Router (which doesn't work with a PCI-Based Video Card :p) Just got it working so back to tweakin' my baby (KT3 :p)!

Anyways, glad to see everyone back!!!
