Lightning z 5090 ISSUE

It seems to be a big problem with the lightning z 5090 screen it works perfectly fine until at some point it just crashes. It dosent give you no signal but it stops monitoring and in the event veiwer it says Msi lightning service.exe application error, and the only way to get the screen to properly function again is to reboot your system. Then it happens over and over again this is unacceptable for such a premium product. I have tried only using lightning hub and I have tried only using Msi center ez display feature, and many clean installs of windows and even re seating the GPU and unplugging and re plugging the lightning USB a cable but no solution. I don’t know what to do anymore.

Does it happen after certain period of time? Like how long? When it "crashed", can you still switch to other mode? Extend monitor, clock etc and if it helps restore the hardware monitoring.
Did you also update to the latest 1.1.30.0 version which apparently fixed some bugs according to other thread?

No, it happens at random times sometimes when I boot up the pc and sometimes when I am in a gaming session. I can’t switch to other modes it just loads forever, To fix this I gotta restart the system to get the lightning service.exe activated again that had crashed. Yes I updated lightning hub to the latest version 1.1.30.0. I saw a video from Paul’s hardware when he was at ces recording the lightning card and the hw monitoring was also stuck and that card has been on for hours. So it seems to be an Msi problem! as many others have reported other issues with their lightning cards. When the lightning service crashed I can still drag my window to the screen, But I can no longer control the screen with the lightning hub or ez display until a system restart. This to me feels like the lightning service.exe has a problem and needs an update to get it fixed.

I ran into two different issues on my MSI GeForce RTX 5090 LIGHTNING Z, so I ended up putting together two small tools.

The first one is for when the onboard display stops updating the hardware monitoring info. It just restarts MSI LightningService:

The second one is for when the onboard display goes black because Windows has disabled `MSI Display Device`. It checks that device and re-enables it if needed:

我這邊在 MSI GeForce RTX 5090 LIGHTNING Z 上遇到過兩種不同的狀況，所以後來乾脆做了兩個小工具。

第一個是給「內建螢幕還亮著，但硬體監控資訊突然不更新」這種情況用的，功能就是直接重啟 MSI Lightning Service：

第二個是給「內建螢幕直接黑屏，而且 Windows 把 `MSI Display Device` 停用掉」這種情況用的，會先檢查那個裝置，如果真的被停用就重新啟用：

Neither of these is an official MSI tool. They’re just community workarounds based on the two issues I ran into on my own system.
這兩個都不是 MSI 官方工具，就是我自己遇到問題後整理出來的社群解法。

MSI provides test file which should fix MSI Lightning Service crashes problem. Feel free to give it a try and report back the result.
1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI\PortalX\MSI Lightning\
2. Execute unins000.exe
3. Download patched version from << HERE >>, unzip and run MSI Lightning.exe to install necessary files
4. Reboot PC and check if problem is fixed later on

I fixed mine using this but now I updated to the latest nvidia driver and the screen on the GPU is just looping the Lightning startup logo. I can see It detects the screen but I can't control it. I'm not sure if it was the new driver that caused this or no.

Try the latest Update from nvidia
