Windows Defender is currently flagging all downloads of LiveUpdate as containing Varpes.J!plock. From the support site link http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/LiveUpdate.zip to external download links such as http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/MSI-Live-Update.shtml#download . The fact that different source links with different file sizes return the same virus diagnosis makes me think it's a false positive, but I'm not particularly willing to take the chance and exclude it without further information. It seems worth looking into. Wouldn't be the first company to have download links altered.

Will try to find out if it's something wrong with links/software or just false positives.

Other Moderator tried with Symantec-nothing found. I tried with ESET-found nothing.
Both of you used Windows defender. Seems as false positive.

Though if you are worried about it, speak with microsoft and/or MSI: >>How to contact MSI.<<

Quite common issue. That's why forum users recommend Forum's flashing tool and MSI's MFlash (within BIOS).

Place BIOS file (www.msi.com, download your CURRENT bios that was/is on before attempted to update) on FAT32 formatted USB stick. Disconnect all other drives (etc), clear CMOS ( >>Clear CMOS Guide<< ), plug that single stick on the back of motherboard and turn it on. If that doesn't help, speak with MSI: >>How to contact MSI.<<

I keep getting a SoundBlaster Cinema update that Live Update 6 says it needs to download. The trouble is that the driver is already installed after going roung the houses to get it on my system thanks to the support being somewhat unorthodox. Main reason I raise this is because, despite the version it recommends to me, which is already installed, being shown, whenever it downloads, Live Update essentially tells me that I am already running the newer or better driver and stops anyway. Yet it still insists on showing it in the Live Update list regardless, something's obviously broken, but I'm not quite sure what.

Hi

I'd suggest you contact MSI about this: >>How to contact MSI.<<
It's not really an issue in my opinion, but surely annoying thing to see update to be exactly same version as currently installed one.

I have the same issue. I have a Z170i with Intel i5-6500 CPU. Live update updated is said new BIOS version is avaiable. I was on 1.40 and updated for 1.50. Till that point  I can not use my PC. I have black screen CPU EZ Debug led is on. I think 1.50 BIOS is wrong how can I downgrade to 1.40? I don't think CPU is went wrong.

Overall I think MSI Live Update is a great application in helping you to keep track of the latest versions for many of the applications and drivers you have installed.

One thing though I'm missing and think would be a great addition is a chance to hide some of the updates/applications/drivers from the list when you perform a scan so you don't have to see them pop up in the list whenever you perform a scan. This since you often have some applications that you don't want for whatever reason and there's no need to see them in the list.

Live Update keeps notifying me that a new version is available.  My current version shows as 6.1.011.  I tried several times to let it install to the new 6.1.012, but it apparently doesn't finish it's own install

I had the same issue and I solved it by manually uninstalling Live Update and then manually install the latest version of it found under C:\MSI\LiveUpdate\DL_FILE unless you changed the default path.

I tried to run this program but failed.
I installed the program successfully but when I tried to run it, it shows that it doesn't support this platform.
My system version is 64 bits Win7
How to solve this problem?

Updated BIOS with LIVE UPDATE. A window showed up on the monitor saying that BIOS is getting updated, dont turn off and mouse and keyboard would be locked. After few minutes the computer rebooted and then, for long time, was just powered on without showing any signs of booting up. I restarted the computer and it still showed no signs of booting up, also power button LED did not light up. tried resetting BIOS by removing battery, jumper cap on JBAT1, downloaded BIOS to USB...  Noticed after all this that the LED for CPU is constantly lit, meaning CPU is not detected of fail.

tl; dr
Used Live Update to update BIOS and now motherboard doesn't detect CPU.
