Hi everyone,

I have an MSI Crosshair 16 A13VGK laptop, and I’m trying to install a second M.2 NVMe SSD in the SSD2 slot. However, I noticed that there is a large rubber pad in the area where the second SSD goes, and I’m unsure about its exact purpose.

  • Is this rubber pad meant to go under or over the SSD?
  • Do I need a standoff or screw, or does this rubber pad act as a spacer to secure the SSD?
  • Will the laptop lid close properly if I install the SSD with this pad in place?
If anyone has experience with MSI laptops that use this kind of rubber pad instead of a traditional mounting screw, I’d appreciate your advice.

Thanks in advance!

You need a bracket that secures the M.2. It goes across where the rubber pad is, perpendicular to the M.2. There's two screw holes to secure it. You have to go to their https://us.msi.com/support site and follow the prompts about product to order it. They shipped mine next business day arriving two days after shipping. Not bad for free.

I don't know why they didn't include it in the box. Likely figured everyone would throw it away or lose it before they figured out what it was.
