Hi,

I was reading online there are some issues with the Phison E18 controller and there have been firmware updates for the controller, has MSI released any firmware updates for this nvme drive?

Solution
Update:
New FW updater is ready.
Things to note before doing the update:
  • * Back up important data from the target M.2 SSD
  • * M.2 SSD must be installed to M.2 slot directly without any adapter
  • * Unzip the file and confirm both file is in the folder:
A. [MSI]M480 SSD update tool.exe
B. pcie_dll.dll

To proceed:
- Run M480 SSD update tool.exe with admin privilege
- Confirm target SSD is recognized by tool
- Run the update tool
- Restart PC

Result:
[Pass] tool will show “firmware download success”
[Fail] tool will show “firmware not support”
If SSD FW version is up to...
Can you provide a screenshot with Crystal Disk Info

Set RAW values to DEC 190 in the functions

Sorry for the late response - I RMA'd my drive, they sent me one with EIFM 80.0 and I'm still having the same problem. I even updated crystaldisk info.. I think I will be buying a WD SN7100 in the future.

I installed the updated firmware, however I am still seeing quite slow read/write speeds. Especially write is at least 10x less than what I would expect from the drive. Anyone know what could possibly be the issue?

I have another WD drive in the same mobo on PCIe4.0x4 and is getting 10x write performance so this is kinda weird. Appreciate all the help!

In what machine is installed?
What SSD driver is used and how is the partition alignment?
run [AS SSD] and show a screenshot

I have a PRIME X570-PRO motherboard. I am using the EIFM31.7 firmware. I have just one single partition for the entire drive as NTFS mounted at D:\, the speeds are quite slow unfortunately. The NVME slot should support much faster speeds at PCIe 4.0x4. Thanks for your help!

Can you test the SSD in another M_2 slot?
Or in another PC?

Does this tool support the 480 Pro 4TB model or is it only for the 2TB model?

Disk size is not in the requirements.
So any size would work if meet the criteria listed in the requirements.
Simple have a try it, if it's supported it will be flashed.

Etc.: Any size 1TB, 2TB, 4TB can work if the requirements are fulfilled.

I also have an MSI M482 2TB with firmware ERFM11.1. Will it work or is this only for the 480 model?

When I upgraded from E31.6 to E31.7, the temperature of the msi spatium m480 pro 1TB sensor went from 40 degrees to 49 in a calm state. Is this normal?

p.s The speeds on e31.6 and e31.7 are the same. The operating system is windows 10. Ryzen9600x, asrock b650 pro rs bios v 3.5, ssd radiator is installed

sounds... promising answer.

Checked on the same class drives, got drive1: 49C idle, drive2: 50C idle with the same firmware.
Don't know what was before, but wont matter for me as those are idle temps, not load. (as long load temp is fine)

I'm just confused by the 9-degree increase in temperature caused by the firmware update.

If it's really caused by FW, then must be some kind of temp accuracy improvement.

Dont know why, but after 4 days temperature back to 39-40 degree :/

I will leave a message here for people who may encounter a similar problem and read the messages in this topic :/

Hello!

Will the firmware update tool work for SSDs with exact hardware configuration (Phison E18 + Micron 176L TLC) from other manufacturers? I have a Team Group Cardea A440 Pro drive. Only MSI, Kingston and Corsair provided firmware updates from Phison.

The firmware tool identified my SSD, but I did not proceed further.
