Hi,

I was reading online there are some issues with the Phison E18 controller and there have been firmware updates for the controller, has MSI released any firmware updates for this nvme drive?

Things to note before doing the update:
  • * Back up important data from the target M.2 SSD
  • * M.2 SSD must be installed to M.2 slot directly without any adapter
  • * Unzip the file and confirm both file is in the folder:
A. [MSI]M480 SSD update tool.exe
B. pcie_dll.dll

To proceed:
- Run M480 SSD update tool.exe with admin privilege
- Confirm target SSD is recognized by tool
- Run the update tool
- Restart PC

Result:
[Pass] tool will show “firmware download success”
[Fail] tool will show “firmware not support”
If SSD FW version is up to...

Hello everyone. I Own MSI Spatium M480 Pro 2Tb already updated it to EFIM31.7
ANd i have an issue when disk becomes unrachable after some random time of work. It is not a system disk. Just a drive that I use for video editing. ANd after some time disk locks up. I can read it i can browse it but i cant edit it or write it until i reboot my pc. I used it without good radiator just some cheapo aluminum plate and it was hitting 57c during operatins so i thought it locks up due to everheating. I installed i heafty radiator on it and now it wont go higher than 47-50c which should be normal. But it still locks up. sometimes it even wont open files. I can see them browse all folder but i cant open files - disk is unreachable.
Disk is 1.5 months old.

100% chance to trigger the issu is start writing intensively on disk and it will lock up.

Im using it with Asrock B550m ITX\AC win10 Ryzen 5700G 64gb ram + 5070ti. Maybe fist two weeks i didnt have this issue. then it started to happen. What is the reason for such behavior.

Can you tell what application you use to do writes on them or steps how this issue can be reproduced?

For example i launch rednering of a long video (2h) from Davinchi resolve studio. And write something big on same disk like 23gb file and it can lockup.

Other 90% chance to lockup the disk is Topaz Video Ai. I take a movie file and process it with topaz and export is az Tiff fiels. (a lot of files) and most of the times disk locksup during this procedure and processing fails.

The only thing that i could summerise - it locks up during high intensive writing.

But it can also happen at ny time. Im not doing any rendering or writing to disk. Just regular usage mabe read some files from it and i start getting error that file cannot be loaded - then i understand that disk has locked again..

Im will get a 4tb HDD in a few days will try tio unload all data from ssd to it and format it. Maybe it is corrupted somwhere. But i dont realy count on this to help. It seems like some software error in controller

Got it.
Could be a defective drive too.
I see you have other storages in the system too.
If you did the same writing intensive on them, can you duplicate the issue?
Or do you have another MSI Spatium drive to test the same?

No, other drives that i used to use BEFORE msi spatium didnt have this issue when were used the same way for years. I wanted more space for projects and more speed for faster rendering times.
No i dont own another spatium drive. The problem is that because of what is happening in the world with memory crysis i cant just return it and get another one - i bought it before prices skyrocketed. I wont be able to get same drive for the same price. And i cant swap it as it is out of stock. Selled will just return money for it.
It works fine - data is intact, speed is good it just lockup until pc reboot.
