M480 Pro 2TB any firmware updates

Hi,

I was reading online there are some issues with the Phison E18 controller and there have been firmware updates for the controller, has MSI released any firmware updates for this nvme drive?

Update:
New FW updater is ready.
https://www.msi.com/Storage/SPATIUM...roduct=SPATIUM-M480-PRO-PCIe-4.0-NVMe-M.2-2TBThings to note before doing the update:
  • * Back up important data from the target M.2 SSD
  • * M.2 SSD must be installed to M.2 slot directly without any adapter
  • * Unzip the file and confirm both file is in the folder:
A. [MSI]M480 SSD update tool.exe
B. pcie_dll.dll

To proceed:
- Run M480 SSD update tool.exe with admin privilege
- Confirm target SSD is recognized by tool
- Run the update tool
- Restart PC

Result:
[Pass] tool will show “firmware download success”
[Fail] tool will show “firmware not support”
If SSD FW version is up to...

Excellent. Both M480 2TB drives in one of my primary development rigs are using affected firmware EIFM31.4. Both drives started suffering from degrading read performance on old files about a year ago when the problem with E18 was documented for the first time and when other vendors started patching it with firmware updates. I solved it on my side by completely rewriting whole drives with DiskFresh, but read speed on rewritten data is slowly degrading again today. Honestly I didn't expect to see a firmware upgrade from MSI side and planned to refresh data again to restore read speed.
But better late than never, nice to see that FW is on the way.

Nope, the FW update do not apply for Toshiba die type.

You probably have some different performance issue.
You can test for this one with Victoria tool I think it shows the best.

Yes, it's highly recommended (in my own opinion).
But you can test it with Victoria tool 1st before apply it to check for this issue and to compare it after the new FW.

btw... Is the firmware data destroying (require ssd format) ?

Can I also get the firmware update please? How do I check with NAND type I have.
I just picked up a pair of 1TB M480 PRO and a single 2TB M480 PRO from the official MSI web store. Sticks arrived a few days ago.
Is there any way to update NVMe drives over USB4? or do I need to stick it into an NVMe port?

You can try to flash it.

Normally no.
But there is no any guarantees about the data on it,
if something go different it can wipe, destroy your data.
In all case you need to be prepared.

No, it won't works from USB adaptors, only with regular M.2 slot.

http://vlo.name:3000/tmph/phison_nvme_flash_id2.rar
run phison_nvme_flash_id2.exe
then select the ssd and will generate a report with the type
