MAG 271QPX E2 questions

I recently picked up this monitor, and overall it seems to be pretty solid. I have a few questions regarding both the current and future state of the monitor.

1) The white balance while in HDR is quite warm, and there’s no way to alter it. Are there any plans to add the ability to allow users to alter the white balance while in HDR? Some sort of ‘Custom’ picture mode, maybe?

2) What is the difference between the ‘Gaming - User’ picture mode and the ‘Professional - User’ picture mode? Is one preferred over the other?

3) HDR Peak 1000 seems to be inconsistent, and fairly dim. I’ve heard that this mode is being worked on for a future update. Is that true?

4) If I switch the MSI OLED Care Protect Notice from ‘Auto’ to ‘Usage 16 hrs’, will that void the 3-year OLED panel warranty? I’ve read that the warranty is void if some MSI OLED Care settings are altered or turned off.

For one:
It is related HDR.
What Is HDR (High Dynamic Range)?
brightness and color are controlled by HDR when modifying it yo ON.

For two:
MSI Monitor profiles? What are they and how do I maximize them?
MSI gaming monitors featured several built-in game modes. They are divided into 2 groups –
1. Game Modes.
2. Pro Modes.
You can understand what these modes are made for by their names of the group. In Game Mode, most modes are named after game categories. Pro Mode includes Office, Anti-Blue Light, Movie, and specific color gamut limitation modes.

For three:
Please press navi key at back side and then provide "FWxxx" in OSD.
If it is not latest / FWv022, please flash it for latest.

For four:
It is also under warranty when modifying Protect Notice to Usage 16 hrs.

Alright, thanks. I have some thoughts though…

1) This really didn’t answer the question, unfortunately. I’m aware of what HDR is. My issue is that HDR on this monitor has a very warm colour temperature, and there’s no way to modify the colour temperature/white balance while in HDR. Would it be possible, in a future update, to allow the user to modify that setting? Even to switch between ‘Warm’, ‘Neutral’, and ‘Cool’ would likely be enough.

These are expensive, high-end monitors. We should really have the freedom to tweak HDR to our personal preference.

2) Again, this, unfortunately, didn’t answer the question I had. I asked what the difference is between the ‘Gaming - User’ and ‘Pro - User’ monitor profiles. Are they the same? Is one better than the other? It’s a bit confusing is all.

I appreciate the link to the Gaming Intelligence app though. However, that app doesn’t seem to support the MAG 271QPX E2 monitor. Will it ever be supported?

3) I cannot update the firmware for this monitor because I do not have a PC with a dedicated graphics card. I didn’t know that was a requirement until it was too late. I’ve read of several people successfully updating the monitor firmware by using the DisplayPort on a Mini PC though. I’m hesitant to try that because I don’t want to potentially brick the monitor.

4) Terrific, thanks.

Hey I’ve just bought the MSI MAG 271QPX QD-OLED E2 monitor for my ps5 and everything is running very smooth and good but the colors are really dark and I’ve tried a lot to get them a little brighter but I just can’t seem to change it that much. Is there anything I can do to make dark spaces a little more bright? If it’s needed I’ll make some pictures of the screen

Are you playing with HDR on? If so, you can only choose between the True Black 400 and Peak 1000 options in the monitors image settings. You cannot manually adjust the brightness while in HDR.

True Black 400 will give you a more balanced brightness, while Peak 1000 will give you brighter highlights but a dimmer image overall in bright scenes. It can be a little frustrating, to be honest.

I’ve been trying out PS5 games with day/night cycles, like Horizon Forbidden West and GTA V. During the day, True Black 400 looks better while Peak 1000 is quite dim. During the night, I’d give the edge to Peak 1000, but True Black 400 still looks solid. Because of this, I’ve been using True Black 400. It’s unfortunate, because I was looking forward to Peak 1000, but it’s just too dim during brighter scenes at the moment.

I’ve read comments that Peak 1000 is an ongoing process for MSI, and something that they’re still working on. Maybe they’ll improve that mode in an eventual firmware update, but I’m not exactly holding my breath.

Thanks it’s a lot better now, but a lot of the black colors on the screen are blue for some reason. Is there anything for that

Blacks on QD-OLEDs can look a bit purple-ish when direct light is hitting the screen. If this is what you’re experiencing, you may have to either move your monitor or your lighting so that direct light isn’t hitting the screen.

I have the same when it’s dark in my room and I have no lights against the screen but it can be fixed when I have it on premium colors in 400 nits but then my screen is really dark and I can’t adjust any brightness settings
