Hello Guys! I'm facing an issue, maybe I did something wrong, but at the part of the UEFI, where it says "start computer via USB, PS/2 Keyboard stc." I enabled the start via USB, but it's not working niether the mouse nor the keyboard. Mouse receiver is connected to the front of the PC (on the case) the keyboard is connected to a USB 2.0 extender slot in the back, so they are connected to the the pinned extra USB connectors. The builtin USB on the board is fully occupied, but it sould work this way. Thank you very much for your answers in advance.

Thank you very much for this helpful answer!
Ran in to teh same problem and tried many combinations of setting to get PC to turn on VIA External USB device like keyboard or mouse,

Finally gave up and got one of these As long as you have Wake by USB enabled in the bios it works a treat.

And is quite hard to see once fitted to the PC

Hi Alan J T, thanks for the tip, I think, as it is still a USB device, It is would not work with my AMD build in S5 state. I am thinking of a PS2 cherry keyboard, or something I can connect to PS2, (maybe build something from scratch, just a button using up an older keyboard or mouse).

It is just powered by usb but is a remote Power and reset button and connects to your Power on and reset via jump connections.
And I have not been able to get wake by lan working on mine but I only use Wifi as well. But some have asked about it and have problems getting it to work.

I see now.
That is an option to consider. I have connected a ps2 mouse and tried to power up the machine from S5, but It did not work.
So I'm sad now again. I have buttons from my arcade machine build, I try to figure out something, or consider to buy this usb device.
Thanks for the answer for the W-O-L question, I tried that too, and did not work either. I think this is a bit of shame for MSI. I've heard lots of good things about this Mainboard, and, well, these old tech features are not working.

noooooooooooo  did you connect the PS2 KB to the onboard PS2 port and set the wake up options as "any key"? i'm not sure if it would help but are you on the latest BIOS? https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/MAG-B550-TOMAHAWK#down-bios
also did you cut the power supply or use Windows shut down key to turn off the system?
Thank you for your answer.
I connected a PS2 mouse , just to use as a power on switch :)
I always use ALT+F4 or Windows key to shut down.
I do not have the latest bios for sure, there was no useful function in new releases for me, so I didn't update, I try with other mouse first (you never know) and BIOS UPDATE and I'll get back here with results.

Can you show us just where this setting is supposed to be seeing as I can't find it anywhere in the bios for my B550 Tomahawk,

WakeEvent.jpg

it says Resume, nothing about Startup. In fact a search of the bios,

Start.jpg

doesn't find it either.

Dear stormy1352
Thanks for your notification.
Yes, this is the part on your first screenshot, I was talking about. (I just did not remember the exact words)
S3 works fine even with USB keyboard.
But it should work a PS2 device in S5 (full shutdown) I believe.
I don't use hibernation with SSD.
If I misunderstood something before, then I'm sorry.
My previous Intel+Asrock combo worked (even now) fine starting up the PC with USB keyboard/mouse after ShutDown.
I supposed this is how it should work.

Then that Intel system wasn't actually off.

Sleep States Available on your Windows 10 PC | Tutorials (tenforums.com)

Soft OffS5The system appears to be off. This state is comprised of a full shutdown and boot cycle.

Power consumption
Off, except for trickle current to devices such as the power button.
Software resumption
Boot is required upon awakening.
Hardware latency
Long and undefined. Only physical interaction, such as the user pressing the ON switch, returns the system to the working state. The BIOS can also awaken from a resume timer if the system is so configured.
System hardware context
None retained.

So based on that what you believe and reality are two different things.

Thank you for your answer, I am missing something, I just don't understand.
Microsoft states from S5 the only way to wake up the machine is the power switch,
but in the Tomahawk UEFI the resume with PS2 from S5 can be enabled.
Where did my logic go wrong? Or....I approach this issue from a different way: What do I have to do if I would like to wake up my PC with a PS2 mouse after shutdown?

For waking up by USB device, Intel can wake up from S5 but AMD can't.
For waking up by PS/2 device, both should be able to resume from S3/S4/S5. Just make sure you enable the correct one "Resume by PS/2 mouse" not "by PS/2 keyboard".
