Hey guys,

I thought I'd register to give a little information about the last two BIOS revisions for the MAG X670E Tomahawk WIFI (7E12v1C and 7E12v1D) and an interesting problem that I've found. If you've updated BIOS to either version, check the speed and lane count reported for your main pcie slot. After updating to 7E12v1D, and suffering a massive performance downgrade (MSI RTX 4090 and a single gen4 Samsung 990 Pro m.2 drive is all that's present), I did some digging and found that my main slot was running at pcie 1 1X. I immediately downgraded BIOS back to 7E12v18, and all was well again. So, I went through and updated BIOS in order one by one to see when this issue reared it's head.

Everything is OK up to and including 7E12v1A. After that, the glitch appears. This is happening when leaving the slot in auto. The best BIOS lets you manually choose is 8X, and choosing this will get you to gen 4 8x, but still, that's unacceptable.

So, I'm back on 7E12v1A with the slot at gen4 16X until this is fixed. If you're on 1C or 1D, check that your top slot is behaving correctly.

Hi! I have the same motherboard with a 7800X3D and a PNY 4070 Super graphics card. I haven't updated past 7E12v14 because I have a WD SN850X ssd in the first M.2 slot, but I'm hoping a new BIOS will correct it soon.

What did you use to determine the lane utilization in your pcie slot? Hoping to avoid performance losses if MSI do release a new BIOS.

Thanks!

The first tip off was 20% reduction of 3dmark time spy extreme score. Then both Nvidia control panel system information AND GPU-Z verified. Tested without load and under load.

You made me wonder, so I tested my RTX4080 on my PRO X670-P WIFI, I'm on it's latest bios which is older AGESA than your board but strange enough TimeSpy had gone down 2500-3000p wtf!? Anyway, I didn't have to reboot and check bios etc it took 5 minutes to establish that in my case it was Nvidia Auto HDR being ON which obviously sucks that much points from the score. Turned it off and score was back to normal.
Not a big problem with RTX4080 as performance is good enough to leave Auto HDR on, which does look a lot better in many cases. But with say a RTX3080 or lower it may be a performance problem, good to know.

Hi all - just downloaded beta bios for the same board - have 4090 and 7800x3d and was stuttering all over the place in warzone. Should I set the PCIE lane to a value here? or leave on auto - like what option or value set here am I looking for. thanks in adv

Leave it on auto. If you drop it to 8x+8x, it will limit the slot to 8X.
