Main Board: MSI MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK WIFI
Bios Version: 7D91vH8?
PSU brand and model: MSI MAG A850GL
12v rail Rating of listed PSU: 70.5A

This is the 2nd board ive received from amazon and i just cant get it to power on at all without pressing bios flash. no debug leds and the psu doesnt turn on
i have the ATX and both CPU power connectors plugged in and ive tested the PSU on 2 older systems
Ive tried using the case power button also disconnecting it and shorting the 2 pins on the front panel header
The only way it powered up is when i tried flashing the latest firmware after which it turned itself off and still wont turn on
anyone know how to turn this board on?

Potentially you have the misfortune of getting two Z790 Tomahawk WIFI in a row which are DOA, see here. I've seen more than a handful of cases of this now, enough that this is the first thing that springs to mind. Usually i would say, try with a different PSU etc., but with these boards there must be some batches which simply all have this fault for some reason. The most amazing thing about it is, these boards have all passed QA at MSI, so the fault must've developed afterwards. Maybe a cold solder joint that cracks or whatever, only MSI will be able to tell (if they put two and two together with the increased RMA rate of the Z790 Tomahawk WIFI / Z790 Edge WIFI).

Power supply arrived today for a completely new build. Installed it and same as OP.... nothing. Stripped it back down, reset CMOS, and still nothing. No debug lights. Will light up flash bios LED when I inserted stick and pushed the button. Bummer, kinda spoils the excitement after at least 10 years out of the PC world or gaming.

Yep, Just sent in RMA. Getting ready to order a Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI in a few minutes. Don't really want the headache and worry of a bad replacement board and the Z690 is pretty much the same thing.

You need to push really hard on the CPU connectors until they snap in. Do a visual inspection after. The CPU block is looking strange to me... Can you connect the pump to an external power supply?

Not much connect to... so whitout digging deep in to it, that would be my advise. I never steped out of my first board. Allways looked search what could be wrong, because I know parts of it just found an other way when something is broken.

Chances are some of people are the very same ones from here on the forum. But yes, MSI should definitely take notice, i hope someone there puts two and two together about these board models. Not sure what they can do about it though, if a certain batch is affected, other than to RMA them quickly once they get another one. I mean, they probably won't post a public notice "Hey, these two board models could be DOA, just so you know". They will silently deal with the RMAs, hopefully find the cause and prevent it for the future, and that'll be that.

Don't buy computer parts on amazon. I drive to the computerstore myself. There are websites like https://www.trustpilot.com to check the retailer and read user comments. You will learn much out of that. Buying agreements tells you much. More intresting doesn't mean anything. If the buy agreements are good for other people, they are often good for you too.

Yeah, absolutely avoid buying such stuff on Amazon. Anything above 150 quid I tend to go to a proper retailer (Overclockers, SCAN, Ebuyer...), especially for computer components (and other electricals).

I ordered my MSI MAG Z790 WIFI from the MSI store and it arrived also arrived DOA! I knew of the various issues where people were receiving dead board but I took a chance on it anyway as I really wanted this board and had high hopes I would receive a good one. No Dice! I had to RMA my board and pay return shipping since I ordered from the MSI US online store since Amazon was out of stock. I was going to request another one but I think I'll get a refund and go with a different MSI board.

Wow that is very bad. Is that also the Tomahawk?
Have you by any chance recorded S/N of the board?

Yes, It is the Z790 Tomahawk board. I was really hoping I would get a good board after reading all the complaints of non working boards.
I have the serial number recorded and took pictures of the motherboard as well. It cost me $29+ to send it back UPS insured.
I think I'll order my next board from another supplier who doesn't charge for returning defective products.
It will be a MSI board as I like them. This would have been my third build this year and I have built many PC's over the years going back to the mid 80's.

To the OP: I don't mean to hijack your thread.
