Hello just purchased and build pc with:
MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI
Intel u7 265k
Patriot Viper Venom 32 GB KIT DDR5 6000 MHz CL30
Seasonic Focus GX-850 ATX 3.1
I have also one pcie 5 nvme and one pcie4 in place.
i am trying build without GPU as may not be needed, i have mostly cpu intensive workload.

Therefore i hooked HDMI cable to my monitor started pc and nothing is showing, and motherboard debug is showing 55 withou any light - so my guess is it is not an issue with RAMs eventhoug i reseated them twice already.
I am under impression it is showing CPU temp as no orange light is present.

I have also tried to attach old RX580 to HDMI but same 55 and nothing only restart after a minute or so. I am hitting F11 but does not seem to do anything.

So my question is may flash of bios help?
Or am i doing something wrong?

Thank you for any help.

Juraj

Looks like this

Code 55 won't be the CPU temperature yet, that's still an error code, related to the memory. For sure you can try to flash the BIOS using the button, this is always good as a first thing to try, because it's so low-effort. Follow the proper procedure, then it has to flash for 5-8 minutes and reboot.

What you can also try, use one module of RAM only and test each of the four RAM slots individually. Because if you find that for example two or three of the slots work, but one or two cause the Code 55, then you would need to check the CPU socket for bent pins, and also take photos of the socket, upload to an image hoster, and link them here. If there are some RAM slots that are not working, more often than not there's bent pins in the socket. But we'll see. If you always get Code 55 no matter the RAM slot, also try with the other module in slot A2.

Take out the GPU again, it's not needed here, this has nothing to do with the graphics output. With such an error code, there won't be a picture yet.

Hello, how are you? Try removing just one RAM module. If the RAM is 64GB and it doesn't work, it's best to use one module. If the device works, update the BIOS to the latest version, then install the other RAM module and see.

Well i have 2x16GB modules.
So far i was able to test each stick in each slot with same result 55 then restart and 55 and then no restart but no video output.

Also downloaded latest bios move it to stick formated to fat32, 1 GB it flashed for 18 minutes so i have turned off power and PC is behaving same( did not expect anything else as after 10 min it probably failed).

Funny thing now i prepared another 16GB stick with MSI.ROM but when i turn on power supply board light is on, and when i push flash bios it turn off and that is it...so i am not sure what to think of it.

I will disaasemble cooler and look under cpu if socket pins are really bent.

Any toughts about stuff above?

If all slots give code 55, then it's less likely to be bent socket pins. Still would be good to check of course. edit: Just saw your pics, yeah, nothing obvious.

The highest priority now has to be to get the BIOS flashed successfully. The button method is known to be very temperamental, a lot of people have had to try with numerous USB sticks before the board "liked" one enough for it to work. So, try with all USB sticks you can get your hands on, and stick to the procedure. 5-8 minutes of flashing, everything else is a failure.

Getting the latest BIOS version flashed on there is your best chance of solving this.

Well but first time it actually flashed now as i turn on power it is lit and when i press flash it turn off light but do not start flashing... kinda old for bios woodoo 🤣

Yeah, it feels like voodoo or that you have to do a certain dance for it to work, but trying different sticks is all there is to it, really. Keep at it, stay patient, try different ones, ask family and friends for some if you have to. I've seen a report of a "Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 32GB" working where some other sticks have failed, and another report of a "SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 drive, 32 GB" having worked. Personally i've used a "Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0" with 32 GB successfully, see here. Also read here and here. The older and smaller, the better. Lastly, see here.

hehe that is why i first tried that 1 GB usb2 stick 🤣
i will try but i may end up returning it cause it is for business and do not have time to spare on testing sticks...

Returning it is also a hassle. So i would give it a good try first, maybe you can coax the board to like one stick.

with first attempt to flash bios:
1.inserted flash with bios on it.
2. turn on power supply
3. white diode was not present and diode on usb is led
4. press update bios
5. led diode started flashing for 30 minutes without any change
6. turn off power supply
7. out with stick
8. after power supply turned on white led on board is vissible not flashing just continuosly led.

now i prepared another stick
1.inserted flash with bios on it.
2. turn on power supply
3. white diode continuosly led - led on flash disk just blink once and turn off
4. press update bios
5. led diode on board turn off and diode on flash disk blinks again and nothing else happen
6. turn off power supply
7. out with stick
8. after power supply turned on white led on board is vissible not flashing just continuosly led.

so not sure if bios died but when i attempt to start pc it goes throug same and end with 55...

not really sure what to do now cause it seems bios flash is not possible anymore.

Are you 100% using the correct procedure? The procedure:

1. Download the latest BIOS from the MSI support site for your board and extract it.
2. Take a USB stick and format it to FAT32 (it's best for it to have a size of 32 GB or less). You can also try Rufus for formatting, as FAT32 non-bootable.
3. Rename the extracted (!) BIOS file to MSI.ROM and save it to the root of your USB flash drive / USB stick (not in a subfolder).
4. Plug the USB flash drive / USB stick that contains the MSI.ROM file into the marked Flash BIOS Port (!) on the rear I/O panel.
5. With the PC off, press the Flash BIOS Button, and the LED should start flashing for about 5-8 minutes and then the board reboots.

yes exactly like that, this time i have even formated it to be mbr just to make sure stick is as it should be.

Still for me is strange this light at the back of the board is present now, it wasnt before first trying of flash.

Do you have any idea why it appeared after first long seemingly not successful flash of bios?

I have no idea why it behaves differently sometimes. That button can be very temperamental, MSI definitely need to improve that. I only know that some people that kept trying with different USB sticks eventually got a successful flash. So i can only encourage you to not throw in the towel too easily.

well i have 2 good news
1. flashed bios from bios itself
2. therefore board is just fine

Bad news is that my ram is problem, friend borrowed me his ram venegance 64gb kit and it worked like charm.

So these are not compatible, cause i am not only one having thos issue, same with another guy in shop where i bought it from....
Patriot Viper Venom 32 GB KIT DDR5 6000 MHz CL30

Can be closed thank you for helping me

Glad you could solve it!

Even on the latest BIOS version, the Patriot kit won't work? Hmmm... here was another case where similar Patriot RAM didn't work, but another kit worked fine. It is weird that this RAM kit should cause such problems of not being able to boot whatsoever. After the approach of flashing the BIOS successfully, I would have also suggested to try with different RAM, now I might suggest it earlier if i see this Patriot RAM again...

Well yes board came with v40 and updated to v90 the latest i found on support page.

yes i am mindblown that it could cause such problems, never experienced it before.
Again thank you for help.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a second opinion on a persistent boot issue. I’m building a new system with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265K and an MSI MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI.
The Problem:
The motherboard consistently hangs on Debug Code 55 (Memory not installed) or E0 (CPU/Memory initialization error).
Hardware involved:
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 265K.
Mobo: MSI MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI.
RAM: Patriot Viper DDR5 (S/N: 07E3211_O81B379804).
PSU: MSI MPG A850G (both 8-pin CPU cables connected).
Troubleshooting done so far:
Verified RAM installation in slots DIMMA2 and DIMMB2 (slots 2 & 4) as per manual.
Tested a single module in DIMMA2 (slot 2) following MSI's recommended priority.
Performed Clear CMOS and checked for bent pins (none found).
Tested with 3 different Z890 boards and 2 different CPUs, and the error persists with this specific RAM kit.
At this point, I am convinced the Patriot RAM kit has a faulty SPD or is fundamentally incompatible with the Z890 platform. Has anyone else experienced this with Patriot Viper modules on the new Arrow Lake / Z890 chipsets?
Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!
