Mainboard led firmware abnormal. Update MB LED FW

Has anyone else been running into this issue with the MSI boards? I been through 2 boards already and it has been giving me this same issue. I'm ready to throw the dam thing out the window. Apparently I'm not the only one either from what I looked up on Google. Has anyone found a work around for this yet? Or do I have to return the board or get it fixed? It seems this happens every time I tried to daisy chain my cases M/B D-RGB 3 pin daisy chain male header into my MSI MAG 240r female header that is daisy chained and connected to jrainbow 2 port. I'm suspecting that I'm screwing up the LED firmware on the boards by doing this as the msi AIO fan rgb, mobo rgb were lighting up. When I connected them, the case rgb lit up but the AIO and mobo weren't anymore. Shut it off and turned it on and now nothing lights up besides the rgb ram sticks. Tried clear cmos, turn off and on rgb on mobo, unplugging and turning off and on power cord, and making sure the connections are all right. I'm also new to argb and daisy chaining so I would appreciate any input anyone has. I will be getting the phanteks rgb fan hub for the case lights and see if that makes them go on. Updated bios and everything i could think of under the sun. Also will a rgb fan hub be able to turn on all the rgb if its not connected to the mobo anymore? Checked all connections and they seem to be right but took photos so anyone can tell me if I missed something. B550 tomahawk, MSI MAG 240r AIO, AMD Ryzen 3700x, Kingston 3200 2 sticks of ram, Thermaltake 700w psu, case phanteks p360a.

I was also just told by Phanteks that my drgb controller may be defective as well. So Im probably bricking the LED FW on the Mobo by connecting the M/B DRGB cable into the female header of the MSI AIO 240 mag that is connected to the Mobo. Is this Mobo salvageable? Or did I just screw this up again and need to return the board or RMA it?

You could even be overloading the J-Rainbow header by plugging to much into it there's a power limit of about 1 AMP or 12 watts of power draw exceed that and stuff gets broken.

This is why I detest RGB in PC Person buys Motherboard or other PC parts costing hundreds of dollars plugs in cheap RGB fan or strip breaks expensive part and gets it replaces not once but several times for free, this runs up the cost for every one who buys Motherboard and other PC hardware, as people who not have a clue as what to do break the expensive stuff with cheap stuff or by overloading or incorrectly plugging cables in with cheap stuff and just RMA or exchange it under warranty and do the same mistake all over again.

I so would like to see RGB free motherboards and the option to buy the same specked Board or GPU or RAM without the RGB nightmare. that is RGB lights , RGB headers and Cases not jammed packed with RGB fans or RGB controllers. The choice to buy a MSI 3080 without RGB would be nice as well.

Would also love to know just how much Computer hardware is replaced under warranty or RMA that is RGB related and how it actually affects the pricing.

I totally get where you are coming from and dont think ill be doing RGB after this. So far this has been a total nightmare for me. I think ill just stick to plain non rgb parts from now on. I just dont know if this board can be salvaged or not for the LED firmware at this point.

Yep Non RGB can look quite decent and way easier This is my 100% RGB free build

Nice. So do you think this board can be fixed? or did i just screw up the LED FW on it for good?
Unknown to be honest as for using a RGB controller HUB may be your best bet some just use a existing USB 2.0 header on the motherboard and controlled by a windows App.

Mine is doing the same thing. Mpg z590 gaming carbon wifi with a msi 240r aio. Also have a thermaltake controller that came with their view 71 argb case. Everything was working fine when I had all my fans and aio block plugged into my razer argb hub to control with chroma. I disconnected my thermaltake controller from the razer hub and plugged it into jrainbow 2 header just to see how good or bad the mystic light would do with the thermaltake fans. My onboard motherboard lights went out and now mystic light says my "mb led fw is abnormal" the thermaltake controller is powered by molex and the motherboard sync is standard 3 pin argb connector. The mobo still works fine but the only thing I can pick up in mystic light is my dram. I want to rma it but I don't know how long it will take to get it back. Kinda feeling like it isn't worth it just for the dragon and the word "carbon" to be lit up but it does suck. Msi support said that if you click support in mystic light, live update, and advance scan that the led fw update should pop up to install and fix the issue but it didn't work on mine and the only way to get that firmware fixed is either through the live update in msi center/dragon center or to rma it

Hello Guys.

I trust that you can help here asap.

I recently purchase MSI MPG Z590 Gaming Force.
After finishing my build ect , I installed the MSI Center.
I did the live update & installed what I needed.

Then I did the Advance scan where it said about the LED Switch update!!
I did the update switch & followed the instructions .
After doing so I opened Mystic Light & got a pop up message saying..
The mainboard’s LED firmware is abnormal. Please get in to support-Live Update and click Advance to scan and update MB LED FW.

After doing all this in the Advance scan it said the following...
No Updates
Can not find update in Server

After all of this my LED Switch button button will only change colour & not able to select after holding for 3 seconds to sync with Mystic Light & also the RGB parts on my motherboard no longer light up!!!

I hope there is a simple fix here!!

Same here Same Motherboard same issue Z590 Gaming Carbon Wifi!

Same here Same Motherboard same issue Z590 Gaming Carbon Wifi!

To be honest i couldn't be bothered to RMA with MSI & wait 6 months or more sooo i was left with a last option, good old Amazon where i asked them what is there warranty's with PC stuff.
Amazon informed me it's 2 years, No RMA or nothing just a simple replacement or refund!!
So i opted to buy a new MSI MPG Z590 Gaming Plus from them.

I did contact MSI UK about this & Guess what ? No replie!!! Pffff.....

I have since replaced with a new MSI Mag Forge 100R Mid Case, plus the new motherboard which i mentioned above to fix this.
As the Mandolorian says .....This is the way.

This time i will not or wont do that LED Firmware Update, Hell no!!!
My last bit of advice to anyone is DO NOT DO THE LED FIRMWARE UPDATE !!!!

Hope you guys get sorted one way or another.

Lesson learnt i guess???

Hi are you referring to the 2 pins pictured in the pic i have attached, If so.... first you need to open task manager and find Mystic light service....end it process... then disable mystic lighting in Msi center, the get a screwdriver( i found a pen nib did not work) jump pins 4 and 5....hold for 3-5 seconds, then the led fw updater should trigger, select update, when its done just follow the instructions on screen....there is no need to RMA unless doing this fails, bare in mind this needs to be done when the system is on and Msi center is running.
