MAJOR UPDATE BY MSI? Is this legit?

Keep receiving notification stating "This is a notification of a major update by MSI. We highly recommend installing this update immediately!"
I find it odd that it doesn't state what type of update it wants to install or state in any way what it is updating... Is this a legit MSI update or should I be worried?

Use latest Help Desk to export the system info and post the text information in here.

Could you also post a picture for that major update notification?

I had the same issue, but I accepted the update and expected a revision/update text at the end. I was disappointed.

Here's a shot of the graphic that popped up on my screen. Raised my suspicions immediately. I have been unable to find any information regarding this update. This popup occurred after I had updated the Nvidia drivers through the NVIDIA GeForce Experience app. System is a GT72VR 6RD.

I have been experiencing the same "update" message... Usually "legit" manufacture updates include at bare minimum, a Version#? I have yet to install the update because that alone is sketchy to me. That and the fact that like 98 out of 100 computers I've owned / used / fixed (e.g...Asus, Acer, Lenovo, Gigabyte, Dell, Apple, Microsoft) include in the "popup" update message, a link to there releases page. The page that details what the update does.... Hell I've seen actual VIRUSES less sketchy than this... I hope someone from MSI chimes in. Prior to that, I refuse. haha

What a mess ... mine also installed this mystery update ... now a bunch of things have problems. It all may or may not be related to this update.

1. For one thing, I don't know how but "fast restart" got enabled again in windows. That has always caused me boot problems so I had to re-disable that.
2. One or two finger scrolling stopped working on the touchpad. Can't seem to get it to work.
3. Games started to blue-screen and completely crash windows. Then an nvidia update came along and that seems to have stabalized things a bit.
4. Games crash again... I had the nvidia crashes which got fixed with a vbios patch by msi... then they released the new vbios which was working until this new mess hit. Now I'm back to the old slow vbios they happened to be kind enough to leave on my laptop.
5. I am getting frequent lockups with the mouse

Not sure if anything else is broken. Sometimes I wish they would stop "improving things". Every MSI app has a different interface on where it lists version and how it updates. You want to find out the dragon center version? Good luck exploring to find it. Want to know if there is a newer version? Head to the website ...

So at this point, I wish I hadn't updated anything.

Also SCM was busted ... had to uninstall .. remove its data files. And install the one released a couple months ago again.

As far as Killer network, things got a lot better after I went to their site and installed the latest killer driver (was updated today apparently). Also right now I have my finger scrolling back on the touchpad so hoping this is it.

I received this update on April 7th around 8pm. Don't worry, this update does appear to be legit. Luckily MSI provides some decent logging behind the scenes that unfortunately, isn't readily available through their GUI's.

Hmm seems very strange to say the least..

This is now my 4th MSI Laptop and I never had a update message like this.
I think, and i am sorry to say, that it might be best to do a factory reset.

This could have been also a virus due to the fact that i have never heared of such a huge stand alone update, specially if this update causes your system to fail and hard ware to to perform properly..

I had this pop up as well. In task manager under "Apps" there was "Nahimic Hotfix" which when killed made that window go away. Maybe investigate Nahimic to find out how legitimate this whole thing is. Lately I am leary of any updates at all if my computer is working fine. Windows 10 just pisses me off. I never felt like I have so little control of my operating system as I do now. The only thing I do is use a batch file to only enable the update service when i want to and then immediately redisable when I'm don with it.

It is indeed audio driver/Nahimic update. However, after updating my 3.5 jacks are not happy. does not detect my headphones. I used to get a prompt when I plugged in my headphones and I do not anymore. This is on a GT73VR 6RF TItan Pro. Anyone else having issues after the update?

That is an update for Dragon Center. Following info might help.

If you don?t like it and want to update the utility manually, the message won?t pop up again after you refuse it for 3 times.
