Meg X570 Unify doesn't post with ram anything higher than 3200mhz with a Ryzen 5800x

I have a Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600MHz CL16-16-16-36 1.35V 32GB (2x16GB) kit.
I got this motherboard along with a 5800X processor yesterday. The pc won't post if I use the memory higher than 3200 mhz.

Is this going to be fixed at some point or should I just return the motherboard while I can?
I say this very bluntly because lots of people have been having this problem and apparently someone else with the same issue got a ticket response from msi saying 'sorry the new cpu's are only guaranteed to work up to 3200mhz" when we all know that every other brand of motherboards has been having no issues of running compatible memory at their advertised XMP speed. Every review of the new cpu's has been running at least 3600mhz ram. Hell, the last news piece on the msi website brags how they got their memory running at 4200mhz with the new cpus: https://www.msi.com/news/detail/26d2ac2a2d21cce1fdc682bda01ab066
 
Man, you guys clearly didn't live through the original growing pains with AMD......
And how poor their AGESA code was (and continues to be....).

Just saying, this is AMD's first cut. I wouldn't expect things to work great right off the bat.

And if time is any indicator, it'll take a year for AMD to get things working rather well, if I'm honest.
I have a 1700X since launch and funilly enough with the 5800X I fell right back to the G.skills FlareX kits I bought for the 1700X.
Had a X370 Gaming Carbon back then and the combination of 1700X and 3200MT/s FlareX CL14 worked like a charm.
 
No problems on the ASUS motherboards (there is no information for others), you do not need to blame your problems on AMD.
I have at least a dozen AM4 motherboards from different vendors and only MSI always has problems with the BIOS!

Probably because the issue is (per the norm) with AGESA.

I won't deny that MSI isn't the greatest.....but in the end, if what you start with is junk, it's really difficult to get something much better.

I'll admit that my experience with AMD isn't as much as most......I prefer Intel simply because it just works unless there's a hardware issue. My 3200 works fine at 3600 MHz without issues. Even with 4 slots filled and a pretty hefty CPU overclock. In my experience, AMD was constantly spent tweaking to get things to work well. I've not seen that change much if I'm honest.

All that being said, as we said 3 years ago, be patient, let AMD fix things. It's clear they pushed this out before things were ready.

Having similar issue here with MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus and Ryzen 5600X. Got some Patriot Viper 4 Blackout Series 3600 MHz RAM. Althought the RAM worked at XMP settings, i've seen tons of Bus/Interconnect Error warnings in the Windows event logger. I ran folding@home and rosetta@home and the system rebooted overnight.

I was able to fix this by either setting the RAM at 3200 MHz, or keeping XMP settings but just changing the infinity fabric clock FCLK from 1800 to 1600 MHz. In both cases the FCLK would be reduced to 1600 MHz. Looks like a micro-code issue for sure.

Yeah exactly same here with a 5600x and an x570 unify.
Got 4 sticks of Ballistix rev E.
They were running 3733cl16 with my old 3600, with the 5600x 2x8 3266cl16 won't post, but 4x8 3200cl14 will. Obviously a BIOS bug. We'll have to wait... Really annoying since I wanted to try to go for some top 3dmark and stuff scores at launch.

My 5800XT with ASUS Crosshair VIII allows to run the memory at 3800 MHz (FСLK = UСLK = 1900), on MSI ACE maximum 1600 for FСLK with any other settings on the same memory.
Is it AMD's fault?
If AMD is so bad and unreliable, then MSI may simply not release compatible products, and has not any problem. The mature architecture of Intel is much easier for motherboard manufacturers, and most importantly, it is more profitable - a new chipset for each newrelabeled series 14 ++++++++++.

And why is a topic for AMD motherboards moderated by a person who has no special experience? To advertise outdated technology?
 
Sent in web ticket - referred to my country service center for inspection. I would normally have sent it in except I see all the problems everyone here is having - so I referred them to this forum. Hopefully they can contact HQ for a quick response.

Because singular experience proves something across the board with AMD's 500 series chipsets is fine?

Sure, it might work fine or even well for you. But that isn't indicative of a platform on the whole. That's statistics. And a quick look through their forums shows a lot of similar issues as seen here. Same on other's OEM's forums. In fact, seeing quite a few people with similar issues on the Crosshair VIII, as well as many of their other boards specifically with memory issues. Which is why I say, singular experience isn't indicative of a platform on the whole.

Why am I allowed to moderate the AMD boards? Because that's how these forums work. I do have experience. I just haven't kept up with on-hand experience by buying more AMD parts (using my own money....) that aren't what I want or work for me. You'll also notice how I'm not commenting specifically on anything, just making general observations that come with years of experience. But we are here to help people and help them understand better.

A quick look is not a rough study of a question with many hours of tests. Do not confuse the problem of blocking the FCLK with the inability to run memory modules on XMP for some lamers. It's like comparing the problems of an engineer in search of a solution and a savage who can't plug an iron into an outlet.
I had all series of processors representatives of the Ryzen family and it was with the MSI motherboards that the largest number of problems arose (mainly with the BIOS). At the same time, MSI was always one of the first to release BIOS, but then many versions came out and not always newer versions became better.
What was the problem to indicate in the BIOS release that FCLK above 1600 is not supported, so that thousands of clients would not waste a lot of time on vain attempts? Or since these are not numerous Intel fans, then there is nothing to bother with them?

Most PC users probably don't even know what XMP is or where to find it. Let alone know if there ram is running at the correct speed. And in the testin I have seen so far why bother with 4000MHZ Ram as it make next to no difference in performance from 3200MHz. At the Moment perhaps when they get the BIOS sorted it may.

You're asking questions to someone that is not an MSI employee. Which I've explained multiple times.

My current understanding is that this is a known issue and AMD is working on it. That's really all the information I have regarding it at this time.
 
I just contacted MSI customer support regarding this issue and it does look like a BIOS related issue but of course they don't want to do anything about it right now. I got 'keep an eye on the BIOS page and I'm sure they will release soon' as a response.
My solution is also to manually underclock the FCLK to 1600MHZ and it works fine for now. Also make sure the UCLK is not set to 1=1 ratio. Not an ideal solution and you really are not benefitting from the faster RAM speeds if that is the case, but at least I can boot.
Hopefully MSI gets something going quickly.
It also looks like the BETA Bios are up, I'm going to try that now and hopefully get something going. If it helps, I will update.
 
And here I was thinking I made a good decision ordering the Tomahawk (b550) for my 5800x. *sigh*
Do you guys think this is getting fixed in the next week or two or should I just return the Tomahawk and go with a different brand?

This is a bad decision. If UCLK = 1/2FСLK, then 3800MHz memory will work slower than 3200MHz with UCLK = FCLK.
Considering that the FCLK is blocked no higher than 1600, the memory must be manually set on 3200, and then the timings must be optimized. This will give the best performance effect.
Well, or buy Intel, as some advise :)
