I have a Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600MHz CL16-16-16-36 1.35V 32GB (2x16GB) kit.
I got this motherboard along with a 5800X processor yesterday. The pc won't post if I use the memory higher than 3200 mhz.

Is this going to be fixed at some point or should I just return the motherboard while I can?
I say this very bluntly because lots of people have been having this problem and apparently someone else with the same issue got a ticket response from msi saying 'sorry the new cpu's are only guaranteed to work up to 3200mhz" when we all know that every other brand of motherboards has been having no issues of running compatible memory at their advertised XMP speed. Every review of the new cpu's has been running at least 3600mhz ram. Hell, the last news piece on the msi website brags how they got their memory running at 4200mhz with the new cpus: https://www.msi.com/news/detail/26d2ac2a2d21cce1fdc682bda01ab066

Hi guys,

it happened to me the very exact problem!

Msi Unify x570
Ballistix 2x16gb 3600cl16
Ryzen 5800x

...but I solved!

-before installing the cpu i had flashed the latest bios 7C35vA82(Beta version) , but the pc didn't post!
-so I flashed the previous one 7C35vA7: the pc posted and worked fine with my old ram sticks
-when i installed the ballistix sticks trying to go as per xmp profile at 3600mhz the pc become very unstable! It won't post with different debug code each time.
-I had to cap them at 3200 mhz
-I was about to rma my ram sticks when i happened to look at a reviewer's Aida screenshot reporting meg unify x570+ryzen 5900x+ballistix ram at 3600cl16, but the bios version was different than mine!
-i've tried then to flash again the latest bios 7C35vA82(Beta version) and... it worked perfectly! now i'm running 3800mhz 16-17-17-34 with insta post infinity at 1900mhz!

give it a try!

As of the time of writing this and running the latest beta bios as of the 30/12/2020 I can confirm anything above 3200 memory 1600FCLK is extremely unstable and causes system crashes. Board struggles to post with 4 sticks at JDEC speeds, with 2 sticks I cant run anything above 3200mhz. 5950x. On my asus board with its beta bios everything was fine.

argh. I waited on the phone for several hours today, but MSI kept hanging up on me after hours on hold! Straight from hold music to a disconnection signal. What's going on? Just want to run reasonable RAM speeds....

Hi everyone. I have msi mpg b550 GAMING CARBON wifi with ryzen 5800x and today I've bought a pair of .SKILL F4-3600C16D-32GTZN 32GB (2X16GB) DDR4 3600MHZ. When I've installed them i had to reset my cmos to read them and after I've opened the xmp profile my mobo reads them at 3600. But when i was able to login to windows hwinfo first time showed me bus errors and I've launched occt to test the memory. After half an hour I've stopped it because it had over 3000 whea errors and after some research i came here and saw that is probably bios issue. I had the latest in and i've installed the latest beta release from 30/12/2020 and after that it stopped showing errors and pasted the test after an hour with occt. Although now i have some bugs with my icue corsair software and my hydro h115 coller doesn't show correctly. I will try later to install it again and see. It's a bit shame from msi they should have by now a proper bios release. I hope soon for that

Do you have any other problems with beta BIOS? Some reported earlier that the previous "final BIOS" had problems showing temps in monitoring software and USB acting up.
I confirm that my hydro h115 through icue isn't working now properly and i have often disconnect and reconnect my usb devices such as keyboard mouse

USB problems:

Try this. Go to BIOS and change PCIE Max Link Speed or something similar from "Auto" or "Gen 4" to "Gen 3" might just do the trick.

Sorry for late reply. Was on a short trip.

That kinda depends what GPU you have. A PCIE Gen 4 graphics card can take a small hit if forced to run at Gen 3 speeds. Here's one study done by Kitguru (ie. RTX 3080 PCIE 3 vs. 4) and the difference is tiny outside some benchmarks.

If you have Gen 3 card like I do, I'm sure you won't see any difference. The reason I suggested doing this is that some people have reported how selecting Gen 3 over 4 or even Auto helped them with their USB problems.

I have a pcie 4 card. Yesterday I've reinstalled windows and i think that it stopped doing those issues. And I'm guessing it's not a bios problem to that but from windows. Anyway my G.Skill now works fine with beta bios at 3600 without errors and i did memtest 4 and half hours and occt too. Now I'm waiting for a stable bios version

I ran into the same issues, went for a 3200Mhz set https://www.gskill.com/product/165/...DDR4-3200MHz-CL16-18-18-38-1.35V64GB-(4x16GB)

Runs perfect, There is probably a bios issue because msi has posted these ram´s in the compatibility list 3600Mhz vermeer architecture
Your ram is in there so it should run 4 slots 64Gb at 3600Mhz View attachment 145356View attachment 145357View attachment 145358View attachment 145359View attachment 145360View attachment 145361View attachment 145362View attachment 145363View attachment 145364View attachment 145365
I don't have any issue so far! Works fine and for usb problems i found solution by disable 2 things in bios and works fine. Now I've overclocked my ram too at 3733mhz and 1867 fclk with timings from dram calculator (doesn't post at 3800). So far all good. Its definitely a bios issue as after installing beta version everything as i explained above is fine. Only issue that remains is with corsair hydro h115 and icue but that was and before for crap so i don't worry about it

I´m still having problems with the tomahawk though.
My bluetooth is not showing up anywhere, wifi works perfect
Reinstalled windows, installed bluetooth drivers, checked device manager and hidden devices ( no bluetooth)
Activated run bluetooth at startup.
Whenever I run the troubleshooter it says there were no bluetooth devices found.

2nd issue. I´ve got a fractal design meshify s2 case.
It has 2 usb c ports on the front, but only one works. it´s connected to the motherboard with the 1 cable that splits into 2 which goes to the 2 usb c ports.
Only 1 of the 2 is working and it´s connected to the same plug on my motherboard, so 2 usbc ports that go to 1 usbc connector on my mobo. 1 works the other does not.
And sometimes my usb ports do strange things, they only accept button inputs on my xbox controller and the joysticks just don´t work, have to pull it out and plug it in, after that it works fine.
Same with my corsair keyboard, 1 time it just failed all of a sudden and had to pull it out and plug it in.
I also get a usb power warning when booting up sometimes, saying there was a power issue on one of your usb ports. and it repeats about 4 or 5 times in 20 seconds before going away.
I have checked the connections on my mobo and psu, they are all good. I´ve got a corsair 1000W psu so power is not an issue.

Could it be I have to remove all these devices from the boot list, maybe it´s checking them at startup, my primary boot device is my wd black 250Gb nvme with only windows installed.
Maybe for some strange reason this is interfering with them properly working?

For this problem can you try the unplug the PSU for 10 minutes then plug it back in. it seems to work most times when Bluetooth is Missing

Could be a faulty cable that connect the USB 3 to the Front USB or there could be a bent pin where that plug goes into the motherboard causing the problems, as you getting the power problems as well I would say faulty or damaged cable

You should wait a bios update for these issues. Did you have before any problems? If you have usb disconnections then disable at peripherals the values from the photo below. It worked for me

First thing I tried. Doesn´t work.
I´ve read that there are 2 pins on the intel ax200 card that are used to disable the bluetooth, maybe for some reason my mobo is supplying power to these pins.
Thus disabling bluetooth completely. Could it be it´s screwed in 2 tight and maybe one of the pins is getting some current. Or maybe there´s a faulty setting in windows which disables it by default. This is the card and the pins I´m talking about. someone had the same issue and taped of the 2 pins to make it work, You can see that if it would be a little bit crooked the pins could get contact from the connector by accident.

HAve not heard of that but guess it may need to be reseated as may have moved in transit is just like fitting a M.2 SSD Have done it a few times when doing upgrades for laptops. and is fairly straightforward.

Having similar issue here with MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus and Ryzen 5600X. Got some Patriot Viper 4 Blackout Series 3600 MHz RAM. Althought the RAM worked at XMP settings, i've seen tons of Bus/Interconnect Error warnings in the Windows event logger. I ran folding@home and rosetta@home and the system rebooted overnight.

I was able to fix this by either setting the RAM at 3200 MHz, or keeping XMP settings but just changing the infinity fabric clock FCLK from 1800 to 1600 MHz. In both cases the FCLK would be reduced to 1600 MHz. Looks like a micro-code issue for sure.
The bus/interconnect issues are mostly due to the infinity fabric puking it guts up.
It will be sorted I guess when new bios's get released ..

Heey how are you? i wanna ask you a question about my ram Crucial ballistix ( BL16G36C16U4B ) . ive bought a single stick ram ( the one ive mentioned) and i wanna ask you if i but the EXACT SAME one model , so im gonna have these two single stick rams ( AND NOT A FACTORY KIT ) will i be able to dual channel them on ur mobo?? Thanks a loot!!
