I have a similar problem, as well. How can the batteries go out if the screen is blank and there is no indication the player is on?

alick has been making lots of suggestions about firmware recovery here, but as yet no one has responded to say if it worked or not. maybe you should try it and give some feedback?

Suggestions indeed...
I scanned through every thread I could find, tried every solution and came up with nothing....
Problems, problems, and problems

This product has already stopped production......so I only have three solutions left for your reference!!!

1.Pressing enter "FM / A->B key" + "REC key" will rebooting!! please try again...

2.Reseting power plug

3.Firmware update!!!

Like I said, I tried every solution I could find.
Tried number 1. What the hell is #2 supposed to mean? As for #3, how am I supposed to update firmware if the player is dead, and doesn't come up as coonected via the USB port?

if it is still under warranty, then return it to your supplier, or RMA it through MSI

Firmware update correct process:

1.Please download and install the latest firmware and driver!!(http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/ia/ia/pro_ia_detail.php?UID=564)

2.After firmware installing will show some files, please cover driver installing files(C:\Program Files\MSI\MS-5515)

3.Please plug your mega player 515 in your PC

4.Press ?play key? continuously. (While mega player can't be recognized by PC, please add this procedure!!)

5.Please enter OS "start" (below left corner) and enter "programing collecting" and choose to "MSI MS-5515" update now!!!

5.After update success you can release of your hands (While mega player can't be recognized by PC, please add this procedure!!)

Please try again!!!

Hope to solve your issue!!

Yes, it is still under warranty, i bought it less than 3 weeks ago. I might just have to send it back:(
I have tried everything, even pressing the play key while it is plugged in. I also tried holding the play key for a longer period of time. The player still does not respond or is recognized by the computer.
If any of you have more suggestiong, please help.
Anything but sending it back for repare under warranty:p
Thanks

have you tried removing the battery and connecting it to your PC?

if it is three weeks old and you still have the receipt, you should be able to take it back where you purchased it from for a replacement / refund

The battery is built-in and not removable, I'm afraid...
I guess I will have to find the receipt and wait around for weeks:(

OMG. I FIXED IT. BY ACCIDENT.
1. Hold down the power button and keep doing so
2. Plug it into your computer via the USB cable (while holding the power button)
3. The computer should recognize the player and start installing drivers called "mp3 player recovery" or something like that (you may need to  download drivers via windows update)
4. Once the installation of the recovery drivers is complete, run the Firmware update software that came with the MP3 player and update the firmware normally...

ALL DONE! FINALLY!
;)

thank you for sharing your solution, hopefully this will help many others!

for now, i think this deserves sticky status

Glad you were able to sort it out.

You may want to change the subject so it is a bit more informative. Something like "Bad Flash Mega 515 - Solved".
