any tech admins here who can help me on this problem at all? I would be extremely appreciative..

im looking for a possible firmware update for the
MS 8332 (32x12x40) CD-RW drives

my problem is the following:
i can burn at ALL speeds.. and it SAYS that it burns properly at all speeds..
but when i Burn CDs at 32x (i have 32x memorex CDs., i've also tried verbatim, etc) and nero SAYS it has burned it properly with no errors..
but it hasnt.. only about 75% of the cd has been properly burned (this is in TAO, DAO, audio cd, etc.. i've tried them all)
with audio cd's, the tracks up to the portion of the cd that hasnt been written will read fine..
but with bin images, it'll make the whole cd useless..
if i burn the CDs at 24x, the CD burns just fine (perfectly)..
like i said, i don't get buffer underrun problems in any speed.. but at 32 speed, although it SAYS it has burned the cd properly with no errors, there is.

any help i could get on this i'd really appreciate it.

my specs:
AMD XP 1600+ cpu
256 pc266 DDR ram
Geforce 2 MX 32meg
Soltek Purple Ray ATK266a motherboard
40 gig maxtor HD
10 gig maxtor HD
40x CD-rom
MSI 8332 32x12x40x CD-RW drive
SB Live Value!

BTW i just tried the latest update to nero,
and that didnt help any =(

so its gotta be a firmware thing...

is there even an 8332 firmware update?
can i USE 8340 or whatever the next highest number is?
or what can i do to fix this problem...

Assaf,

Is it just me being blind, or is there no mention of MS-8332 on that firmware page?

RuneGod,

What firmware version does your CDRW have? You can see it on PC startup or in Nero drive info.

well that's all well and good telling me what NOT to do... but more importantly, what CAN i do? :p

my firmware revision is: 120D

and assaf... WHY is there no new firmware for this drive? is there anything that can be done for this problem? =\

RuneGod,

That firmware corresponds to a Cyberdrive CW058D which is 32x12x48 IIRC.

There IS an updated (140D) firmware for such a drive and can be found here

Usual Disclaimer: Use this at YOUR own risk.

er...
okay if i get this updated firmware..
(which doesnt match my speeds, btw)
i have a 32x12x40x...

and it messes it up.. should i just do 'rollback driver' ? or how would i revert back..

RuneGod,

It's rare that drives have such similar firmware labelling schemes and still be different drives.

Yes, it should still be able to flash back to the original firmware, but you'd need to have that one in the first place :(

And to do that you'd need to know the exact identity of your drive :D

Catch-22, eh?

RuneGod,

My mate JMedic solved his MS-8332 problems by updating his BIOS and Via 4in1s. Have you tried this already?

hi, i have the same problem whit the same recorder....the compilation cds...i have copied with out problems on nero, but cdrwin cannotrecognize my recorder so i cannot copy cds becouse of that. and i cannot copy a cd from an image becouse th fireburner trow some error when i am beginning to burn a cd....and i use this program beocuse are the best for this kind of things....so if somene know how could fix the problem please help me...
ohh i forgot that i have the same problem whit the audio cds.

Just to clairify, mine was the MS-8340.

Also, try disabling the S.M.A.R.T. option for your hard drive if you have it on.

Good luck.

J. :p

but what did you do??
can you ran the fireburner and the cdrwin??

My specs:

AMD Duron 850 MHZ
ECS K7S5A
VOODOO 3 2000
AOPEN 48X
MSI 32x12x40
128 Ram
quantum 15 gb 5400 rpm

hey.. i lost my net for a bit.. its back now
i still havnt updated my burner ..
cuz i don't want to mess it up..
it'd be nice if MSI just came up with a newer firmware for this drive, that fixed our problems =\

and about the VIA 4in1 drivers, yes,. i have the latest installed..
about the BIOS, no i havnt updated the bios..
dont u have to flash it? ugh.. that's not pretty..

This is what I did.

Flashed BIOS with Live Update.(the latest version is safe). Updated the latest 4 in 1 drivers and I disabled the S.M.A.R.T. utility for the hard drive in the BIOS.

It is not a firmware problem, as I am using the same that came with the drive.

BTW, mine is the Dragonwriter (MS-8340) 40x16x48.

There is still that little bug of being restricted to certin write speeds at times, but if you open the drive, the options are returned. Then close and continue with session.

Hope this helps.

J. :p
