MS-B9181 BIOS Update

Hey everyone,

I own a MSI Infinite S 9th compact desktop, with a MS-B9181 motherboard. I currently want to update the bios, however I am aware with these pre builds it gets quite difficult with the motherboard exclusivity. Main motivation for doing this is I want to access virtualization settings and configure IOMMU / Intel VT-d. Typically this is found under the OC settings but with my version of BIOS it doesn't appear for me. I have core isolation turned on, with memory integrity, and attempted to use these drivers to update the bios however have had no luck as the driver update doesn't appear in the flash directory. I did format the drive to fat 32 and dragged the update file into the root of the USB directory. Still, no luck. My only assumption is that version isn't the right one, however I can't seem to find any drivers that could possibly match this motherboard anywhere else. The current date. brand and version of my bios is American Megatrends Inc. Version 8.00, and date is 1/07/2019. My PC specs are a intel i5-9400F and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660TI. I'm currently trying to use MSI Centre to see if that can help me in checking for Hidden OEM Motherboard Updates. Any help would be greatly appreciated in me achieving my goal of accessing virtualization settings.

Ok so I managed to update the bios, however I still don't see any OC setting in the bios under advanced mode nor can I figure out any other ways to access virtualization and turn on IOMMU

Sure, but this is not just a board with a B-series chipset, this is a completely custom small form-factor board, even using SO-DIMM (notebook RAM):

Plus, B-series chipset boards most notably cut down on certain overclocking settings, but still should offer things like virtualisation settings. So I think, looking at this board, the likely explanation is slightly different:

Did you set the BIOS to Advanced View (F7)?

But in general, with a board like this, you're almost dealing an oversized notebook. And similar to notebooks, the BIOS is "nerfed". They just don't want the user to mess around too much in there, so some settings or whole sections may have been made inaccessible. They just set defaults which they deem to be ideal for the system, plus the hardware like the PSU may not have much reserves (since it would only lower their profit margin to use more capable parts than necessary). That's why the BIOS may not allow for too much tinkering.

Even for pre-built PCs which use regular retail boards, they tend to have a custom BIOS which lacks certain settings or at least lags behind severely in the availability of BIOS updates. But at least there, the advanced user could cross-flash to the BIOS of the retail board, to get access to the latest BIOS and all the settings. With your board, this is unique to that system, there is no retail board like that. So if there's a setting missing, there's basically nothing you can do.

citay/DVair is right, Intel B360 chipset does not support CPU or RAM overclocking so basically you will not see any options for it.
