I have a MSI A5000-025US and I would like to know if you could mod it to Reverse/swap the notebook keys functions of the "Fn" key with Left "Ctrl" key like you have done with other models.  I would also like to know if you could enable us to change the GPU Frame Buffer Size from the fixed 256MB to a user selectable 32MB - 512MB like other notebook manufacturers have done with this Nvidia chipset.  Any other performance options such as making FSB-Memory Ratio or Memory Clock user selectable in BIOS would be awesome!   ;D

We can have a try. [The risk if something goes wrong is only yours!]
I assume that you've read the sticky 1st: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=121220.0
before asking for anything.
If you are ready to go:
Run this Tool 1st: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=108079.0 and paste start-up info received

Here is the start-up info:

Mainboard:  MS-1683
PCB Version:  1.000
Bios Version:  A1683NMS V6.0N
Bios Date:  11/20/2009
EC Version:  Blank

Thanks Svet you rock!  All the features have been added that I requested and they work flawlessly including GPU Frame Buffer Size or shall I say "Svets FB".  ;-)  I have a few more questions for you.  If I were to change the memory clock and/or advanced memory timings and the notebook doesn't post how do I reset CMOS on this model?  Do I have to remove CMOS battery and allow discharge or will the notebook auto recover and post using fail-safe defaults?  Is there any setting in BIOS that can be unlocked that will unlock the GPU core and memory clocks so they can be overclocked in Nvidia System Tools without giving a "The changes made are invalid" error message?  Are the GPU and core and memory clocks locked by chipset?  As far as I can tell this modded BIOS is rock solid and I would highly recommend it to anyone.  Thanks again!

Apply improper performance settings can lead to instability or refuse to post.
You have to take out CMOS battery to reset it.
So change anything from there only if you are absolutely sure what you are doing and be sure that machine can handle it.
If you want to change anything from there, test the settings 1st from OS [with memset,Nvidia System Tools, clockgen or whatever]
Also OC at own risk...
Gamble there is not an option as you may need to take out the CMOS battery after failure attempt.

If you want to make performance as AMD Pentium 7 ==> that's another story :)

Is there any setting in BIOS that can be unlocked that will unlock the GPU core and memory clocks so they can be overclocked in Nvidia System Tools without giving a "The changes made are invalid" error message?  Are the GPU and core and memory clocks locked by chipset?

No that can't be done by that way.
I'm not gonna apply permanently GPU OC in BIOS.
So if you gonna OC the GPU, do it from OS like you already did.

GPU Frame Buffer Size or shall I say "Svet's FB".  :)

"Svet's FB" function is secured as i don't left option to be disabled[which will cause black screen at next boot].
So whatever option from "Svet's FB" to pick it can't lead to troubles.

Well the problem is the GPU won't overclock one mhz in Nvidia System Tools.  When you overclock it it gives a "The changes made were invalid and will not be applied" error.  Does this chipset lock the GPU clocks or is there another utility I can use to adjust the clocks?  I have tried RivaTuner and it doesn't work either.

You have to leave GPU OC alone then

Svet is there any way to add CPU multiplier selection, IDA Mode Disable/Enable(Intel Dynamic Acceleration Mode), and voltage adjustments for Chipset/GPU/CPU?  I love all the features in your last BIOS.  It is works great and is very stable just like stock.

If this is possible i am gonna take a X9000 past 4ghz for sure!!! for now with current settings my t9300 is stable at 3.25ghz with temp creeping into mid 80s lol

yes !

I would like to have voltage options in the bios to UNDERVOLT (and underclock) the cpu to save battery time.

can lower voltages be added to ami bios?

Svet,
Thank you very much, your modified bios has done wonders for this machine. I also would appreciate the ability to undervolt through bios the cpu/gpu to make this laptop have the ability to be both a powerhouse or a powersaver at choice.

Svet - first off, THANK YOU. I would never dream of service this good from any other company. You rock!

I have a quick question.. I don't know what BIOS came factory preloaded on my A5000-025US but after flashing it to the newest BIOS (and your modded BIOS), I seem to have lost the dimmest brightness setting. Are you able to do anything as far as screen brightness goes? At the dimmest setting, it's still a little too bright to use in a dark room.

Thanks!  :)

if there is any multiplier option this would be greatly appreciated!  :worship:

svet you are the man!!! do you have any writeups on modifying the bios via amibios tool?

it looks like brightness can actually be modified through the bios.

you may be right that the new bios is brighter.

perhaps Svet can make the lowest setting dimmer.

based on the bios that came with the laptop, the lowest light setting is brighter than my old laptop's screen

someone said they found a vcore setting in the bios. maybe we can get that unhidden.  :lol_anim:

the option for CPU VID is listed in the bios strings... i wish i knew how to enable it :( anychance there is a writeup on modifying ami bios???

would it be possible to use one set of settings when on battery power, and another while on AC? kinda like the MSI Wind mod you made...that would totally be nice.. thanks again for all your help!

i saw this as the latest fw for a5000 on msi's site (http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=135&prod_no=1882):

Version X.0N Update Date 2009-11-23

with these fixes:
1. Fixed AC&battery icon can not be showed in Linux.
2. Update EC bin file to 1683EMS1.408:
a. Turn off SUS_POWER after 4sec override shutdown, fixed can't power on after press power button 4sec
b. Remove the functin about "After Critical shuttdown inhibit power on within 60sec."

is svet's modded fw based on this version? or is V6.0N a different version?
thanks for all your help!
