hi

This motherboard has the 4 debug lights and here's what happens:

CPU light first is fine, lights up and goes off, moves onto Ram light.
1 of 2 things happen: If I have no ram inserted, the Ram debut light stays on, and the power stays on. If I have ram in, the ram light goes off, the cpu light flashes, and the power restarts. It just goes into this cycle.

cpu ; i3 8100
ram; 8gb 2133 MHz 2666

Please list all your hardware (other cards, PSU...).

Did this start to happen recently? Only since you changed RAM? Bit more background information would be good.

You are mixing RAM for dual-channel? This won't work well. You need an identical kit of two modules. Try with just just one RAM module in the left slot (as you only have two slots).

If that works, then update the BIOS to the newest version and try again with two modules. But it might be that it won't work properly unless you use a kit of identical modules.

What do you mean, you can't update the BIOS?

Update how-to:
1) Get the latest BIOS. It's always the topmost one when you click on "BIOS" on the MSI support page for the mainboard.
2) Extract the file onto a USB stick.
3) Enter the BIOS by pressing DEL during boot, go to "M-FLASH" in the BIOS.
4) Once M-Flash (the updater) is loaded, it will show a list of your drives. Select the USB stick and select the previously extracted file on there.
5) It will ask for confirmation and then update the BIOS. It's fully automatic from there, takes about two minutes.

I would take off the heatsink, take out the CPU, then inspect the CPU contacts and the socket for any anormalities, bent pins, or foreign objects. Clean the CPU and the heatsink base with a suitable cleaning agent (high-purity isopropyl alcohol, "rubbing alcohol", or specialized products like Arctic Silver ArctiClean). Put the CPU back in, apply a rice-grain to pea-sized blob of new heatpaste in the middle of the CPU heatspreader, put the cooler back on, and see if it fixed it.

There's a few more things you could try. For example, take the board out and put it on a wooden table, this ensures that there are no shorts with the case.
Try with a different PSU. Take out the CMOS battery for a while.
