Hey out there. Just wanted to say first of all. Great Motherboard. Very happy with the performance of this mb thus far.

The only issue I am having trouble with is attempting to find out if the system can power the USB ports (any) while the system is off.

My reason for this is I have wireless devices (USB Mouse and Headset) that I would like to charge in my down time without having the system to be on.

I am unable to find anything to reference this in the documentation other than wake on (x) request (which dosen't help) and nothing on google.

I migrated from a 680i system which was able to do this so I know its at the least possible with some mb's.

Any suggesitons? Thoughts?

Thanks

Scott

That will have nothing to do with charging when the system is off/hibernate/sleep.  If it has wake by USB event, it has to provide power while the system is in hibernate/sleep.

I was also hoping to find out if this can be done.  I have a set of Logitech G930 wireless headphones that have to charge via a usb port.  As it stands right now, I have to leave the entire rig powered up just to charge them...

Seen from the opposite perspective:  You are asking the system to keep the power supply to 12-14 USB Ports active while it is actually supposed to be off(!).  Even though this may be practical to charge stuff, it is somewhat ridiculous from a power-saving perspective. If my system would keep 14 USB Ports powered while it is actually in an OFF-State, I would definately consider it a serious bug.

If I am not mistaken, the system should keep the USB Ports powered when it is in S3 Standby state. Perhaps that is an alternative.

Other than that, your only chance is to contact MSI Technical Support and ask if they are willing to release a special version that keeps USB Power enabled in S5 state: http://support.msi.com/

I just got a Toshiba laptop over the holidays as a travel computer.  It has a setting that will leave power to one usb port, when the laptop is completely powered off, for charging functions (ipods, phones, etc..).  This is the type of solution I was hoping this board had.

You can't compare a desktop to a laptop.  Laptops have to be made to be quite energy efficient to prolong battery life.  Desktops are either powered(plugged in) or not.

I was going to ask the same thing Scott.  All my other motherboards over the last few years (Asus, Abit, DFI) have offered this.  Usually only on one or 2 usb ports.  I haven't tried all the ports yet but it looks like we are out of luck.  I did pick up a Targus brand usb hub a few months ago at Frys that said it had 2 high power usb ports on it and they are marked on the hub.  These will charge my mouse after the computer is turned off though they don't have enough power to charge a ipod/iphone.  Not sure if there is enough juice for headphone charging.

Did you read Jack's Reply #4?
