MSI Center makes CPU 100% load

Hi. The problem is described in the title. Everytime my PC starts I have 100% CPU load and a light indication of CPU temperatures rising (I set this up in the MSI Center Mystic Light). I have NO viruses or any software that can load my Core-i7 13700 like that especially on load. So I started digging and found a temporary solution - resetting the power plan. As soon as I reset the current powerplan tha CPU usage magically lowers to 2-5% total. As soon as I reboot the 100% CPU load returns. So I started switching off programs one by one from the StartUP menu and guess what - as soon as I removed MSI Center from there the CPU 100% load disappeared even after rebooting. So I started digging further and discovered that MSI Center User Scenarios are to hold answer, because as soon as I start this module it messes somehow with the Win10 power plan and make the OS think the PC need higher power and thus makes the whole PC work at higher voltages and fans rotations. The Balanced scenario gives a 100% CPU load, the Silent one - a 90% CPU load (and these numbers do not change!!!) Can anyone from MSI elaborate on this? Is there a better fix than uninstalling the MSI Center?

I don't know what in the McF#ckery is going on, but I turned on my PC today, and MSI License Agreement pops up, have to read, click check mark in box and agreed. Well, I had to reinstall the whole MSI software again (Version 13 wtf ), so it would appear, I don't want to bore you with the details, but this is how I set it up...>>> Appears to be working again, and notice on the "Hardware Monitoring" (picture 17, and 20) that the Fan is Present again on the Right Column, it was there before, disappeared, and now has reappeared, now at the top of the list, not at the bottom... curious...hmmmmm  Hope it stays like this and that I don't have any surprise reboots. I am going to leave everything as it was. I haven't changed anything since I originally set this PC up a Year ago with MSI Center, I forget the version number... 🤞
Yep Had the same and have reported the problem took three reboots for it to work as it should

MSI are aware of its borky install stuff up

Ok, I don't mean to keep beating this animal up like this, but I just want to understand things. MSI Center works, it stops working, it works, it stops working. My PC. it turns on, and it turns off, it turns on, and it turns off. MY CPU Fan turns on, it turns off, it turns on, it turns off. I go into MSI Center turn on manual fan 50%, I go to Customize Settings Fan Tune goes back to my original fan tune, exit MSI Center, Fan turns off again.

I turned on my PC this morning before it finished booting, it booted itself a second time. I did some work online, turned off PC. Came home this afternoon, turned on my PC and again, it booted itself twice with Fan running at 50% Manual setting. I went back into MSI Center and did another Fan Tune, seemed like everything was back to normal. and now I see my Fan is off again as I sit here typing this out.

I will stop taking screen shots of this. Pics 21-30 was from this mornings event and Pics 31-46 were just taken a short while ago.

When you go to Manual fan control 50% do not go back to the Smart fan window but click on the red X instead

Fan Tune is a bad idea as it sets way too low for some fans if fans are on DC in Bios it will cause that problem or if fans don't do less than 30% load
I know this was Fixed for The Pump Setting due to the fact it was turning Off Water pumps if used and this setting was increased to avoid that problem.

Adjust the Curver your self don't use fan tune I would set lowes speed at 25%

I will have a look at the Fan Tune and see if I can replicate your problem

I only use the MSI Fan control for testing as I prefer for BIOS to Set fan speeds so have Software Control for Fan and CPU Off.

This is waht Fan tune gives me

As you can see not teh 20% but starting at 25% @0c and then increasing to 40% @45c

I am Using Be-Quiet 140mm PWM Fans all around for Cooler and case

If you set your Fan curve to match the ones shown here I do not think you will get the same problems just avoid Fan Tune for now

Also, can you check in bios that fans are set to PWM and not DC or Auto

OK, speaking about my problem. I updated the MSI Center. And now I've got lower CPU frequencies in the "Balanced" profile than usual. Actually the "balanced" frequencies have become the same as the "silent" ones - 4000+ MHz instead of 5300 in boost. I started stress testing in AIDA and saw that the TPD is fixed at 120+ Watts. With the previous MSI Center this value was higher and the frequencies were more than 5000. Moreover in my BIOS settings there is no limit for TPD set. So it is the MSI Center that limits it. And the last thing - if I choose the "Extreme" user scenario in the MSI Center now it makes my PC go up to 97 degrees and start throttle. This never happened before. I don't know what is happening with the MSI Center but it really is faulty.

Ok, I will look into this and see if I can replicate your situation and if it solves my issues with the fan and pc going on and off and changing all the time. Thank you for the information.

Jesus, I don't get it , MSI can built a World Record Breaking Award Winning MOBO, but can't design software to control it?

Hi, any updates or solutions, guys?
With the current version of MSI Center I still have 2 problems remaining - a 100%CPU load if the SSD in the devices speedup is on and a no difference between Balanced and Silen User scenarios

Me too, I was having this issue for weeks, but now just when I started the uninstalltion process the CPU usage went from 100 to 9. My Windows 10 is up to date, and the MSI Center version I believe was 2.0.29. I downloaded it from the msi website, and it did not update to a newer version.

I'm now on version 2.0.31.1 and STILL having this issue with 100% load if Storage boost is activated. Sent a dozen emails to MSI Support, but it seems like being useless, 'cause the only answer I get is delete the software and wait for newer versions... A year has passed... Saying that I'm disappointed is saying nothing...
Another problem that appeared with the current version is downing my CPU to 800 MHz in Balanced and Quiet User scenarios... I don't understand how this can be with MSI constantly ruining the software from MSI.

If you use Storage Boost, it will needlessly cause high CPU power draw, this is known and we have discussed this, see here (the two bottom links). It doesn't actually cause true 100% load, it just fakes 100% load to make the cores clock higher, see this video. Anyway, that function is absolutely stupid and should not be used.

Reducing clocks in idle is perfectly normal, those are the normal power-saving mechanisms. Here's my CPU in idle (no MSI Center installed):

Contrary to the "Storage Boost" function (which is detrimental), this downclocking in idle is exactly what you want, the CPU is supposed to consume the least amount of power when there is nothing to do. Once there is any kind of load, it will immediately spring back to action within nanoseconds, so there is no performance loss from this.

Hi, citay, the problem is that the user scenario Balanced makes it 800 MGz not in idle, but under load as well. It just cuts the frequency up to 800
See the video on trying to run playback in Premiere Pro which normally lods my CPU up to 60-80%. I couldn't even start it immediatelly upon hitting spacebar - the whole PC becomes insanely slow. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eqZfw8VuUxI5yA9U2oen99i26-wNMff0/view?usp=sharing
As for the Sorage boost - if it's not usable I cannot understand why MSI includes this functionality...

I don't know what is happening there. As i mentioned, i don't use MSI Center, i think it's useless and messes with the system too much. They should've kept the seperate "MSI Mystic Light" tool for the RGB control, so people with RGB can use only that. All the other stuff it offers is not necessary and/or badly done.

Just another badly implemented feature that does more harm than good. Anything from MSI with "Boost" in the name, you have to be highly cautious, usually it's BS. For example GameBoost is one of the worst functions in the entire BIOS. It all appears to do something useful on the surface, but when you take a closer look at how it works, it's ineffective and has major downsides.

MSI staff, you mean the ones actually working on the hardware or software? Nah. If you want to talk to someone from MSI, you have to open a ticket. Of course you still won't hear from anyone working on the HW/SW, just from some guy in support who might eventually relay something to them, but it's one step closer than this forum at least. Here we just deal with what MSI puts out, we can warn other users of bad functions, we can give hints on good settings and solve problems as well as possible.

citay,

I actually sent 4 or 5 tickets and got no response.. nothing, no reaction at all. I talked to MSI support devision in my country, but they just said they'd transfered my messages to the main team and got not reply either... Well, never thought such a major hw-company could have such a poor support... Even Microsoft does a better job in that, I'm not talking about Adobe whose software engineers are present on their forums and often react to users' messages... Blah...
