This is my personal thread to share my findings on my freezing issues when i am only using battery power and my battery is between 20-40%. My laptop is only running on desktop and do some small tasks like updating windows updates or updating microsoft store apps. My screen freezes and all i can do is to try to get out of it using CTRL+ALT+DEL or CTRL+SHIFT+ESC or tapping the POWER button a few times and hopes it respond. Sometime it litterly takes 1-2 minutes to get out of the freeze. I never had to do a hard reboot. Screen freezing is random, never happend during gaming or just surfing or whatever i am doing when i am plugged behind cable.

This one always pops up when the freezing did happen:

I think i found the issue, my laptop froze again so i checked the logs as soon as possible. Again i see this one exactly on the moment my laptop froze.

nvlddmkm:
Unable to find event ID 0 description from source nvlddmkm. The component that triggered the event may not be installed on the local computer, or the installation may be corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event came from another computer, the display information had to be stored with the event.

The following information is included in the event:

\Device\Video5
Reset TDR occurred on GPUID:100

The message source is present, but the message was not found in the message table

On the internet i googled alot and found a nice trick, someone mentioned to disable/delete the telemetry plugin by nvidia because that one is a bug in the driver. It should have been fixed earlier but for me it did not. Normally you should have 1 hit, my laptop had 2. So for now i try this solution and i hope that one will work. I also deleted alot of unused drivers

After:

Other solutions i need to try if current solution does not work:
1. Reinstall nvidia driver with ddu program
2. Disable C-State in bios
3. Disable hardware scheduling (as users reports this fixed there issues)
4. Enable user permissions to full control (security tab under properties) for nvlddmkm.sys in system32.

What i tried already
1. Scan Device for Corrupted Files (Did not fixed anything)
2. Update Graphics Drivers with newer nvidia driver (Did not fixed anything)
3. Run Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter (msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic) (Did not fixed anything)
4. Disabled nvidia services in msconfig (this one i am not sure, didnt get any freezes for a few days)
5. Bios update (Did not fixed anything)
6. Driver updates (Did not fixed anything)
7. Changing power scheme from from balanced to high performance (Did not fixed anything)

Question(s):
1. Is it possible the nvidia gtx 3070ti does not get enough power when running on battery ? Is that the reason why the screen freezes ?
2. When i am on battery mode my power button is orange, when i am plugged behind cable my power button is white.

I offered you some alternatives to pursue, but the problem is you want to be the one that knows how to find the solution, once you come out of your box of it cannot be this or that, I will be willing to help, not before!

You are right about something, you offered alternatives to try indeed.

i am pretty sure its not my memory so thats why i did not use memtest like you suggested. Because if you have faulty ram the screen will also go to bsod. In the past i had 2 machines with faulty ram and both showed a multiple bsod screen during the day.

the second reason i did not use memtest is because the screen does not freeze for weeks when i am plugged behind a cable, if i am disconnect my screen will freeze within 3 hours. This states to me something is going on there when the laptop is on battery power. If the ram would be faulty, it would also happen during cable use 😃

Well just disable your dGPU and only use iGPU when on battery, then you will obtain your response.

Just disable in Device Manager, that's what I do with my older models.

Whatever, I had some RAM that was not to spec back in the days of XP, anyways it was my work desktop and I always had strange issues that would randomly pop up.
I spent so much time screwing around with software to pinpoint the issue, then I just gave up on software and just decided to check hardware.
Only when I finally did the memtest86, did it found just a single error, once I changed the RAM, the issue never came back again,
only when I finally decided to put my ego aside, was I able to find the issue, sometimwes I can be so stubborn, but I have improved over time.

Basically, you should not encounter the issue even though the laptop does not connect to the power adapter.
1. Which user scenario setting do you selected when you encounter the freezing problem?
When i am on battery mode my power button is orange, when i am plugged behind cable my power button is white.
> Orage -> Nvidia GPU is activated. White -> Nvidia GPU is not activated.

The issue has been resolved on my side. It was the nvidia telemetry plugin that caused issues on my side. Removing it seems to have fixed it (My system had 2 telemetry files installed instead of 1). I also cleared out all unused drivers (old drivers) using this .bat file (it freed up alot of GB’s). System is very stable now and had zero freezes since i posted the OP. I also used my laptop way more since then.

Glad you were able to solve your freezing issue. You were struggling with that for a long time. How do you go about using this .bat file? Should i use it even though i have no issues so far?

Yeah the freezings started somewhere in july, could not pinpoint the issue fast enough but looking into the logs always that nvidia error came up. So i tried to tackle it and i did. There where 2 telemetry files installed and 1 of them came from an older driver that caused issues like i had. Removing it solved the problem.

The bat file removes unused drivers or old drivers. For me it cleared up over 10 gb (i think it even was more). I use it when i have updated drivers so all older ones gets deleted. But that is a personal taste of course.

I'll give it a go anyway. anything to free us storage space. Thanks for the file.
EDIT
Works pretty well. Didn't free up much for me but useful nonetheless. In my experience so far, i have run every benchmark and testing possible and so far the only issues i have encountered have all to do with heat management more than anything else. I'm not sure if MSI Firmware update 1.0.0.15 has anything to do with it but i doubt it.
