MSI Cubi N 8 GL - Power Button does not work without HDMI Screen

Hello everyone,

I have a MSI Cubi N 8 GL, running Ubuntu 18.04, that is going to be controlling a robot. Among other specifications, the computer should do a clean shutdown on button press.
Unfortunately, we have discovered that pressing the Power Button is not detected if a HDMI screen is not connected (we have a script to be run for a clean shutdown on power button press). With a screen, pressing the power button works flawlessly.
Is this a known issue? Any workaround?

best you can do if that is happening is buy a HDMI dummy plug, Headless Ghost, Display Emulator to plug into the HDMI to Fake it being connected to a Screen

Solution found in 2024 for Ubuntu 22.04. Create text file

sudo gedit /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/90-handle-keys.pkla

with following content

[Avoid any process to take low-level locks on power-keys]
Identity=unix-user:*
Action=org.freedesktop.login1.inhibit-handle-*
ResultAny=no
ResultInactive=no
ResultActive=no
