There are many gaming laptops in the market with similar hardware specification, however, there is one technology that makes MSI gaming laptops stand out from other ordinary products. That is the MSI exclusive Discrete GPU mode switch technology.

MSI has published a video explained how to switch between integrated GPU hybrid mode and discrete GPU only mode. Let’s talk about how it is done.

With the GPU switch technology, user can solve possible software compatibility issue and increase the performance in both games and utility software.

For the hardware, MSI has placed “MUX switch” in the motherboard circuit, so the GPU can be rerouted.

For the firmware, MSI BIOS engineer must build the programming code in order to let the GPU switch become controllable practically, finally, users will need an easy user interface to access the switch without overly complicated steps, and here comes the MSI Center.

The MSI Discrete Graphics Mode may seem like just a small option inside the MSI center, but it actually contains all the hard work of MSI.

Optimus(MSHybrid) has a performance penalty, you lose around 10% FPS using Optimus due to the Nvidia GPU sending the image back to the iGPU via PCIe, consuming bandwidth.

Connecting an external monitor in Hybrid mode via i.e. HDMI gives the same results, as the Laptop uses the dGPU only then.

so on my gp66 i have nvida game ready driver version 462.21 which is a very old build of the game ready drivers and it won't let me install new ones. Does anyone else have this problem? other than that the laptop has been very good.

According to my friend's feedback, your 10gen GE66 also have the GPU switch.
Just remember to update the dragon to the latest version to keep the function work normally.

I have my GE66 10th + RTX3070, does it also have discrete gpu mode?
