MSI Eclipse & 2 x 9800GTX+ - No Display RESOLVED

Spent a lot of time searching the forums and web and I haven't seen this posted so thought I'd share it:

I've just purchased MSI Eclipse and 2 x EVGA 9800GTX+ video cards.  Problem was I was getting no display when both were fitted although individually they worked fine.

Anyway, updating the BIOS from 1.2 to 1.3 resolved the issue so I thought this might help others who have the same problem.

Truth is that maybe it wasn't the BIOS update that fixed it but rather a simple BIOS reset. I had this on a MSI K8N Diamond board with a pair of 7800GTX's in SLi - they would work individually but not together. Performed a BIOS reset out of desperation and the display magically came to life.

PS> How did you update to 1.3 - I see the official v1.3 & v1.4 BIOS are available on the MSI page but Live Update 3 only finds 1.2 (which I'm currently running). Did you use MSI Forum HQ USB flashing tool to perform the update?

If you are not facing the issue anymore, then why do you still need to update the bios?

I suggest that you should stick to the current bios if everything is running as normal.

The (relevant) question still remains regarding "Live Update 3"...

Why does Live Update not show 1.3 & 1.4 (but offers v1.2 whilst telling me I have v1.2 installed) which are displayed on the BIOS page with the warning: "This BIOS can only update via Live Update function". There is no direct link to the file - in the HTML source, the file names are simply marked up bold and underlined - not an anchor in sight. The two BIOS file updates in question (whether you believe I need 'em or not) simply cannot be downloaded!

Well, I do not recommend LiveUpdate and do not use it since I do not trust Windows flashing.

For many users here, the >>MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<< and DOS bootdisk flash are still the best. All you have to do is to download the BIOS you need from MSI website and follow the instructions for flashing BIOS.

With a little resourcefulness you can download it.  :agrees:
7520v13.zip--> http://download1.msi.com.tw/files/downloads/bos_exe/7520v13.zip
7520v14.zip--> http://download1.msi.com.tw/files/downloads/bos_exe/7520v14.zip

I have used every bios up to 1.4b5.  MSI only started to scratch the surface of what this board can do at 1.3b9.  Compatibility with memory and XMP plus cpu function that didn't exist in 1.2 (C1E option and uncore).  Flashing is risky but with this board I would use the latest.  I only use the forum flash tool and so far not a hic-up. :emot-tip-wink:

Anyone else get false positives from the flash program - "Suspicious.MH690.A" from Norton IS 2009? It prevents me from creating the bootable image.

I've tried that but I get errors for both d4.bsk & d5.bsk - "dx.bsk has stopped responding" when I try to create the bootable USB. It's getting very frunsrating!

Symantec 1.4.4.12 2009.03.14 Suspicious.MH690.A:

Suspicious.MH690.A is a detection technology designed to detect entirely new malware threats without traditional signatures. This technology is aimed at detecting malicious software that has been intentionally mutated or morphed by attackers.
Symantec?s antivirus products contain a highly sensitive detection technology designed to detect entirely new malware threats without traditional signatures. This technology is aimed at detecting malicious software that has been intentionally mutated or morphed by attackers.

If one or more files on your computer have been classified as having a Suspicious.MH690.A threat, this indicates that the files have suspicious characteristics and therefore might contain a new or unknown threat. However, given the sensitive nature of this detection technology, it may occasionally identify non-malicious, legitimate software programs that also share these behavioral characteristics. Therefore, it is recommended that users manually check all files detected as Suspicious.MH690.A by Symantec antivirus products for potential misidentification, and submit any suspect files to Symantec Security Response for further analysis. For instructions on how to do this, read Submit Virus Samples.

In rare cases where a legitimate file has been misidentified and subsequently quarantined, your computer may behave abnormally or you may find that one or more applications no longer function as expected. In such rare situations, you should open the Quarantine in your Symantec antivirus product. From here, you may review the list of all files detected as Suspicious.MH690.A and, if you identify a potential misidentification, restore the file from quarantine and allow it to run normally.

Rubbish.. :sleep:
