Here is my case inside: http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=106&Itemid=1&limit=1&limitstart=3

My question: I would like to install my MSI Extreme Audio card and HIS Radeon 4870 using motherboard slots PCI_E3 and PCI_E3 like this:
type2.jpg

instead of PCI_E1 and PCI_E2 like this:
type1.jpg

so that I can keep the area infront of my exhaust fan clear. Would this be ok ? Any recommendations ?

Why not move the audio card instead?

I have my X-FI card in the bottom slot since, in my case, the vid card covered the PCIe x1 slot. The X-FI card is at the bottom by the red MSI cable.  Yours doesn't have to be on the bottom one like mine.  Just move the audio card to one of the lower slots.

Thanks for your comments mike. Look at my board here:

Questions two fold:

1) Can I move the X-Fi card to ANY of the PCI slots, or does it have to be one of the black ones ? can I use the blue ones too ?
2) Is there any loss of performance if I use my graphics card in slot PCI_E4 instead of PCI_E2 (as PCIE_2 is too close to my cpu and rear exhuast fan)

The X-fi card is a PCIe card which can be used in any PCIe slot(only PCIe--you can't use a PCIe card in a PCI(older slot, not express) slot.  If you use the second black PCIe x16 slot(PCIe 4) for the 4870 there should be no problem and no loss..
