Dear community.

My System
MSI X99 SLI plus
Kingston SSD 240GB HyperX predator M2
Intel i7-5820

I have now upgraded my system to run on Windows 10. Since I upgraded from Win 7 I then used the UEFI feature to boot up in Win 10.

But it has some issues. For example MSI fast boot. This doesn't work, when I activate, Msi fastboot or just fastboot I get the following error and BSOD machine_check_exception. No number code or anything, just saying that it will reboot my pc (which it doesn't just hangs)

I know that MSI hasent released any Windows 10 drivers out for your motherboard or BIOS. Other than what there are in this post.

But is this error a driver issue or Windows issue? Since I didn't use Windows 8/8.1 then I couldn't say if it would have worked.

Hi

How did you upgrade to Windows 10? Just let it update through Windows Update or you also reinstalled it as fresh OS?

Drivers mentioned there, are from 3rd parties like Intel or Nvidia, yet MSI hasn't updated Windows 10 drivers page.

Hi Nichrome

The only choise you have is to upgrade it first either via update or the windows 10 tool. I used the tool. And then when my Win 10 was activated i then could reinstall it from fresh, which i did. And made my windows to UEFI from diskpart.

I know.. MSI needs to get it together and make Win 10 drivers.. :(

I'm not really sure if you installed it in UEFI mode. Drivers can't be the problem if Windows won't boot at all just when switching to UEFI Fastboot.

What did you need diskpart for if installing Windows in UEFI mode from scratch?

Maybe MSI will release a BIOS that is optimized for Win10? Cannot really tell, but even I have issues booting Windows 10.

I only have problems booting with fast boot. Other than that its working fine..

Though does fast boot only work with this installed and activated in bios?

Fast boot as software is needed in case you want to access BIOS (which cannot be done through Delete).

What I men't was does it need to be installed to coincide with enabling it in BIOS?

I know if you have it installed then you need it to access BIOS.

Hi

I dont think you need it installed. But always worth checking out and maybe it fixes the issue?

Yet you are on buggy Win10..

OK I sometimes don't understand computers

After I wrote this post I did some tests.. And my pc from shut down into windows took roughly 6 secs to start (not counting the post code) this without fastboot enabled.

Then I installed fast boot because I saw it was launched for Win10.  Well 15-17 secs to boot up. Then I uninstalled it and it stays being 15-17 secs.

In BIOS though it was changed to be MSI fast boot! Which it did it self. So I just answered my own question. You do need it installed.. But it works [***CENSORED***] all.. :(

After removing it if I put MSI fast boot in windows I then got machine_check_exception again.

Fastboot is for UEFI booting. MSI fastboot is an option if using legacy booting for a faster boot. In UEFI booting only choose fastboot (not MSI fastboot)

Sorry am I the only one not trusting to click that link.. :dots:
Never mind he is administrator(not just moderator) with 56970 posts, if you don't trust it don't click it.

Nobody try to do you no harm, and I believe that if someone did he would be kicked out quickly, but it is still user to user forum, and it's up to your judgment and decide what is best for you.

1. Its dropbox (online drive)
2. Svet is admin. Neither him or any of moderators wants to do harm (if any of us would try do harm we would be banned already)
3. You have issues with your PC, not us. If you try it or not it is up to you.
4. If you think this can harm your PC, make a complain to MSI that you are offered a weird file from weird link provided by weird person ;D >>How to contact MSI.<<
