MSI Forum showing up as "502 Bad Gateway"

Why does this keep happening?

They do some kind of automated maintenance. I would guess a backup as it happens every night.

This not only happens every night, sometimes it happens every two hours or so, then it's down for five minutes. I've been on many forums in my life, and an admin on an audio forum (although i'm not really active on there anymore), and i don't know any forums that are down this frequently, even if it's always just for a couple minutes. If this is really supposed to be automated maintenance, then the interval is far too short and it's a very bad software, no maintenance should disable everything like this.

Of course, nginx (that's the server software) hasn't been updated at all. In the meantime there is nginx 1.24 stable. This would definitely be worth a try, as it's low-effort. It's very easy to update this kind of software on Linux or FreeBSD, takes a couple command lines and it's done, maybe this is some rare bug in the old nginx version. If not, well, someone has to sit down and troubleshoot a little. It's not a good look for MSI to have this sometimes flaky-running forum.

it happens every single day at 2 times of the day 8:34PM GMT and 9:34PM GMT so it seems very Deliberate and its usually down at them 2 points for around 3-5 Mins each Time

its something to do with server Maintenance where its refreshing the DATA cache the forum Runs on. its better that its like that then what it used to be like where after a few days it would be crashing and slowing down every 5-10 mins all day every day till they did main maintenance on the server so it seems like a automated system they came up with to reduce down time.

Unfortunately we don't get to manage the forum from the server side. Otherwise..

Not too far off, happened just now:
19:32 GMT - forum is open, clicking on a link, but no response (loading infinitely)
19:35 GMT - "502 Bad Gateway nginx/1.18.0"
19:38 GMT - forum is online again

So i guess in an hour it's time for it again. I never looked at the timing of it before.

Yeah.....I feel that. Trust me, the moderators know and complain, but much like everything.....it doesn't matter.

MSI has a shoe string budget for maintenance of it's entire website.
Sure am glad the laptops are far better.
