Hello,

I've had a 27" MSI G274QPX for about 8 months now, worked like a charm until last week where out of the blue, black lines started flashing at the bottom of the screen, right over the taskbar (see attachment).

I've tried updating my graphics drivers, rebooted, switched the refresh rate from 240hz all the way to 60, which seems to affect the artifact as it slightly changes position at each different rate, until it's all over the place at 60hz. I also swapped my DP cable with the one from my second monitor (different brand) who doesn't show any issue, yet the issue remains.

I checked and it's under warranty, what would be my next step ? Any advice ? Thank you.

Hello, I am experiencing the same issue. Since my product is no longer “manufactured,” a new product is not being delivered, and they refunded my money. I had requested a new product; they even suggested the MSI G274QPF E-2 model, which I accepted. However, they are unfortunately unable to ship it because they do not have it in stock, and despite having a warranty, I have not been able to receive the product in any way. Even though the company I purchased from contacted MSI, MSI hasn't responded at all. It's very strange—I don't understand why they're doing this. Is there anyone who can help?

Ok, some insight I gathered around the internet. Take it with a grain of salt.

Apparently the issue of the black lines is pretty common, not only on the MSI monitors, but all brands, seems like they're no longer using the old solder to keep things in place, there is a new "glue" that conducts electricity and is cheaper, thus creating the issue after a while. How long before it happens? It's at random times.

The only solution for now, is RMA, if this is happening to you, just make a ticket with MSI (or whatever brand manufactured your device) and return it to replacement or fixing.

For MSI specifically, register your product here: https://account.msi.com/en/products/registration/step1

Then open up a ticket here (if your product still has an active warranty): https://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user4/support/rma_form.aspx

Follow the instructions for RMA process and you're done. RMA takes up to 4 weeks (at least in my case).

Hope this helps.

That is actually what I was thinking, I have an ASUS monitor with the same issue, ASUS didn't honor the guarantee even though it still has 1 year less, so anyway, I was thinking of opening it up and look for loose joints and reheat it

I had the same experience. I bought it from Amazon, but the seller wasn't Amazon. I spoke directly with the company I bought it from, but they said, “The company that supplies MSI doesn't have any stock,” and closed the matter. It was a very bad experience for me. Actually, it was my third It was my third MSI monitor, but I don't plan on trusting this brand again and buying anything from them. I filed a complaint with the appropriate authorities, but since the company couldn't get a response from the supplier, they closed my ticket and forced a refund on me. I had to pay the difference and buy another MSI monitor. If I encounter the same issue again, what will I do? Another refund? xdd I'll never consider buying from them again. because such a poor support system is unacceptable. I hope it gets fixed.

First mistake.. always buy expensive products from reputable retailers. It isn't MSI's fault that whoever sold you the monitor on Amazon isn't accepting any accountability.

the monitor I had, the one with this same issue, I bought it from amazon and they refuse everything because "it was in their policies not to" and not only that pc monitor, I bought 2 years prior this issue, a TV that it was under guaranty of course BUT since I bought a third party guaranty extension THEN they amazon had no business with me after that point, a guaranty THEY recommend to buy as AN EXTENSION of the standar regular guaranty, soooo

The same thing happened to my monitor at the beginning of this month. I bought it from Amazon.de, sold and dispatched by Amazon, yet they won’t accept it or send it to a German service center for repair. Since I live in Slovenia, they are now saying I need to send it to the manufacturer for service, even though they were willing to take my money when I bought it.
I contacted the service center listed on MSI’s website in my country. They verified my serial number and confirmed the warranty is valid until the end of November, but said they can’t accept it because the warranty is not international. They told me I need to send it to a German service center.
Then I emailed the German service center, and they replied that the seller needs to send it to them. However, Amazon.de doesn’t want to send it.

I even told them I would pay for postage—just fix my monitor. I paid half my salary for it and can’t afford a new one. Based on the number of people on Reddit and here reporting these horizontal lines, it’s clearly a manufacturing defect with this type of monitor.

I am stuck in an RMA loop. Any help would be appreciated.

NO, everyone faced the same problem, apparently is not a factory defect but was intentionally made for the monitor not last longer than the warranty period, amazon didn't do anything for me and I just ended up buying another monitor BUT from another retailer

That honestly doesn’t give me much hope 😅

It’s pretty frustrating to hear that you went through the same thing and got nowhere, especially when this clearly isn’t an isolated issue. I don’t mind paying for shipping or going through a proper repair process—I just want the monitor fixed, not replaced out of my own pocket.

Right now it just feels like I’m being bounced back and forth between Amazon and the service centers with no real responsibility taken by anyone. I’ll keep pushing a bit more, but yeah… not exactly reassuring to hear your outcome.

yeah and the thing here is that my monitor was an Asus and the exact same thing happened to me, bounce between Asus and amazon, I'm on this forums because I have an MSI motherboard and NOW that my asus monitor died, I bought an MSI monitor, BUT BUT now that my ASUS monitor is gone, I realized that the asus monitor was hurting my eyes a lot, I did open my monitor apart to see IF there was something "easy" to fix and noticed that the controller chips had a tiny thinner heatsink on it which my research said about, all those monitor had the same issue of overheating

Title: MSI 27" 1440p 170Hz Monitor – Horizontal Line Issue After ~1.5 Years

Hey everyone,

I’m having a really frustrating issue with my MSI 27” 1440p 170Hz monitor.

There’s a horizontal black line that appears at the bottom of the screen. It’s not permanent — it comes and goes randomly, but it happens often enough to be really annoying.

What I’ve already tested:

  • Different PC and a laptop → same issue
  • Different cables and ports → no change
  • Clean GPU driver install → didn’t fix it
  • The line does NOT show in screenshots
So at this point I’m pretty sure it’s a monitor (panel) issue.

The monitor is only around 1.5years old, which is honestly disappointing for something in this category.

Has anyone experienced something similar with MSI monitors?
Is this a known issue or just bad luck?
And is there any fix, or is the panel basically done?

Appreciate any help.

is dying, same issue as millions others, RMA as soon as you can

Repair is usually as expensive as buying a new monitor.
Open a ticket with MSI, worth trying. Your monitor may be 1.5 years old, but in some regions monitors come with 3 years warranty. I found that out myself when I needed to RMA a monitor as HDMI port died.
