I just got my MSI GE76 Raider 11UG. While playing games in really high settings or benchmarking, the CPU cors 3 and 5 hits 96+ degrees. Other cores are 73 to 88.

Is there a problem with this laptop?

Thanks.

when you try MSI kombustor
CPU burner - 4 cores / or 8 cores load "identical for all cores" "but you must firt set CPU LOCK" or you only get overheat !!
this determine bad thermal paste on some cpu zones

5-10C differents "per CORE" or lower is OK .,,.more is absurd

for cpu lock ,..., bios/advanced/speedstep disabled
or in windows -power scheme "cpu max state 95-/- for test

.,.,,in games stress is this problem normal
this load is used randomly // cores
what is used is overheated // what is not fully used "running c-states SLEEP" -lower temp

,.,.,.when need determine problem .,..,need same load for all cores !

////
translation for full story is difficult here :biggrin:

Thanks for the reply. I will try MSI Kombustor to see what it has to say.

The thing is, it is the same cores that shoot up so high, all others are more normal.

Tried MSI Kombustor. Same result. Cores 3 and 5 reached 94 ~96 C. While the rest are around 77 ~ 88 C.

Is this a problem?

when is stress OK / same for all cores
you have bad paste on some CPU zones / or bended heatsink

,..,try same test + CPU LOCK -BASE CLOCK
.,,.after good re-paste must be temperatures for same for all cores "for identical load"
10C tolerance ,.,.more look bad "one core run in PROCHOT - lost performance"

or lower profile 90C is maximum for performance !

it really depends on the test performed
TRY lock cpu under 90C / full fans speed

and try CPU BURNER --same load for all cores
HWINFO+ sensor --best monitor

check this zone CPU LIMIT REASON "setup CPU ,.,. so that he does not run within this limit "
try custom setup for CPU -- and no need new thermal paste :-)

+try
game stress / - verify signals from CPU LIMIT REASON // similar cpu lock "90C max"
CPU BURNER --100./. usage "bench" for stability / full usage verify
gaming is lower stress

Hi, where you able to solve this problem? I recently bought msi gp76 11ug and i got the same exact issue as you. Cores 3 and 5 shoot up to 95~96 degrees while the other cores are on 75~85 degrees.

Hope you can give input ifbyouve already solved your problem. Thanks.

I am having the same issue with this particular laptop. Any resolutions so far? Cooler boost and undervolting doesn't change anything!

Hi. Sorry but I have not done anything right now to fix my issue with the temperature.

undervolt can't help you when run on PL limit "only raising clock" this using next point on voltage curve - small effect
need full fan speed / CPU RATIO LIMIT "cpu limit under PL" + undervolt - this have good effect

or set new PL limits "PL1 / PL2" ?? or ICCMAX ,,custom Vcore / AC-DC LL ??
but here all use -200mV for nothing :biggrin:

.,.,for multicore - here is best any core management "PARK CONTROL" impossible use fully 16cores in notebook" only on idle speed
EASY way - profile in DRAGON CENTER

lot notebook is only bad thermal paste -- need only re-paste

I have the exact same problem, with GE76 RAIDER 11UH. But it's mainly core 3 and 5.. But sometimes core 7 also gets higher. I will re-paste the notebook soon, im waiting for the new thermal paste to arrive.

What does it mean to you when I say even with coolder boost my CPU Temperature won't go down one single level. I have seen your replies here and there, all the same repetitive tips. Can should show us in pictures how to make the following changes:

set new PL limits "PL1 / PL2" ?? or ICCMAX ,,custom Vcore / AC-DC LL ??

,,.set new PL limits "PL1 / PL2" ?? or ICCMAX ,,custom Vcore / AC-DC LL
in admin bios access / or emulation in windows "throttle stop/xtu"

I found an EXTERNAL review and 50W there is a problem 100C "new device" :cautious:

any extreme good thermal paste "for re-paste"
///////////////////////////////
or
sent your current setup CPU RATIO ?? "46x" ??
admin mode "hotkey in bios" f2 + Lalt + Rshift + Rctrl"

ADVANCED/overclock "OverClocking Feature - enabled" save + reboot bios
4.6GHZ ?? is original "impossible for 50W overheat" real tdp 150W "no limit"!!
try AVX offset "4" adaptive change depends usage
"4.2GHZ heavy load "-4" from - 4.6ghz ,,,4.6ghz is used only in easy tasks"

NEGATIVE OC
ADVANCED//overclock//CORE/
or new CPU ratio around 40x - 42x ??
//
"offset 50 /prefix-" - CORE DOMAIN
under volt -example

custom power limits "ADVANCED/POWER PERFORMANCE/CPU/ PL1 - PL2 SETUP"
PL1 - 45000 "45W long"
PL2 - 50000 "50W short"

try this or lower setup "short limit is around 2.5ms / long some sec "28sec unlocked cpu" -example
PL limits on MSI is most time controlled by - EC FW !!! "this not must works well"

.,,,and before any custom setup read any OC guide for any CPU and read all in bios "help tab for all items above" !!!!!
,good luck

//edit
full bios reset - 45s power button when run "cmos RESET" !!
any bad setup - potential RISK !! ,,,admin bios + no skill - device brick !!!

This is what I just discovered.

Please, look at the FPS, CPU temperature, and Maximum Power State difference in these pictures!

No matter matter is Cooler Boost is enabled or not, there would no single change to the CPU temperature. This Maximum Power Sate acts like a temperature switch! Within 1 millisecond, the CPU temperature would go from 65 Degree Celsius to 95. My question is that why new laptop should not be able to receive Maximum power without affecting the temperature!

When I set the Maximum Power State to 99%, there is decrease of 20 fps in my most games. This compromise is not what this laptop has been advertised for. There should be a solution for this big issue.
MSI Center and Dragon Centrer didn't work at all.

CPU Maximum Power State - around 97./. - BASE CLOCK LOCK

CPU Maximum Power State ,.,.MIN - 5./. MAX 100./. - BALANCED "adaptive clock" on battery icon SLIDER for sensitively
max power - base clock / max turbo
default - 0.8ghz / max turbo
battery - 0.8ghz / max turbo "slower ,,cpu firt try clock under base clock "

for gaming is recommended MIN 100./. / MAX 100./. - static clock !! under 90C - max performance

you must set new CPU RATIO !!!! 40x ? or similar "under 90C" - XTU or TS // or BIOS -post above :rolleyes:
or warranty and RE-PASTE

Hello,

Little update;

I had to wait for the thermal paste to arrive. So I applied the thermal paste earlier today and its too soon to judge, but after running Cinebench R23 and 3dmark it does really drop in temperatures. I used all tests, cooler boost ON.

Cinebench max temp; 78C overall - no thermal throttling
3dmark max temp; 69C overall - no thermal throttling

I have to test it with games, but it seems promising..

Thermal paste i used is; thermalright tfx

Screenshot that i've added of HWiNFO is from 3dmark.

Did you test the thermals on AAA games? Please, let us know! Thank you!
Would re-pasting void warranty on your new laptop? How can I make sure that it is not the case?
