I just recently got this card from Amazon along with a new Corsair HX1000i power supply.

The radiator and fans were too big to fit inside my case the way they arrived stock, so I took the fans off and mounted them on top of my computer case with the radiator screwed in under it.

It all seems to be nice and secure. I plugged the fans back in to the 4 pin connectors on the radiator and proceeded to install the new power supply.

When I turned on the system, I smelled and saw smoke, so I turned it off and looked inside the case. One of the 4 pin connectors coming off the radiator where one of the fans was plugged in had burned, and I am not sure why. The cables from the fans themselves seem fine.

I unplugged the cables from the radiator and instead plugged them in to the 4 pin fan connections on my motherboard, but only one of the fans is running and the other is stationary.

I have not changed anything regarding the card such as overclocking or messing with MSI Afterburner. Everything is stock, fresh out of the box.

What should I do here? Did the fan short out or break? Any idea why the cable on the radiator itself would burn?

Should I RMA the new card through Amazon or MSI?

Here is a picture of the top of the case. Pardon the dust. As you can see, one fan is stationary.

Here is a picture inside. I plugged the two fans into the motherboard's 4 pin case fan slots. Only one fan is spinning. You can sort of see the damaged 4 pin connector coming from the radiator on the right.

And here is the cable. It doesn't show the exposed copper as clearly but as you can see, the sleeve burned off. The other cable appears to be fine.

Coming back to this a bit after a year since I have updated the computer.

I am still using the Suprim Liquid X 4090 I bought that had the cable that burned out. What I ended up doing was using new Corsair fans and plugging them into the motherboard, which seemed to work fine. I don't benefit from the Zero Frozr feature, but the card is stable under load so it doesn't seem to matter.

I may still see if I can get the board replaced, however, because I decided to plug the fans into the connector that came with the radiator on the 4090 just to see if it would supply power. I tried a game and the fans did not turn on even as the temps approached 80C, so I think the cable on the radiator is just completely broken.

For now, I am going to plug the fans back into the motherboard.
