Hi,

1. Please refer to the steps below for troubleshooting and prevent the problem from improper/outdated software or profile.

2. Please enter safe mode in Windows, then see if the issue still exists.
If it doesn?t work under Windows safe mode, please contact MSI local service center for further check.

3. If it works in Windows safe mode, perform Windows Updates untill there is no updates available. Select the Start button, select Settings  > Update & security > Windows Update, then check the issue. If it doesn?t work in Windows safe mode, contact MSI local service center for further check.

4. If the issue still remains, please download Synaptics TouchPad Driver from MSI website below. Disconnect the internet, uninstall and install Synaptics TouchPad Driver(version 19.0.22.0), check it again without connecting internet.

5. If none of the above steps helped, you might need to contact MSI local service center for further check.

This is ridiculous because I came here looking for exactly same problem for same laptop series (gt72 7RE in my case). Exactly same buttons not responding till you press them hard and several times. This seems like very common problem with MSI laptops and I still didn't find any solution.

F G and SPACEBAR don't work on my computer, either. What is going on? People on forums are saying MSI is telling them they're keyboards have things spilled on them but it seems dozens of people have the EXACT SAME 3 KEYS THAT DON'T WORK!

(although, I'd say that both "ctrl"'s doesn't work, and not only left one.

That's surprising. I have exactly same problem with F,  G and Space on GT72 2QE. And my notebook is used only as stationary PC. I wasn't using my notebook keyboard at all. So it couldn't be broken by extensive usage and i definitely didn't spill anything on it.

Ok, this is so weird. I totally assumed this was my keyboard starting to physically breakdown, but as one of the commenters mentioned, on my computer, the problems are the letters x, z, and the left ctrl button (although I can't be absolutely certain that it hasn't happened to other letters/keys--I feel like my right ctrl button has a problem once too). Is anyone from MSI looking at this thread and is there anything we can do? I keep my drivers up to date. This sounds like a software problem, not a hardware one. Most of the time, the keys work okay, but every now and then (and with more frequency of late), the keys won't work unless I bang on them a few times--but I've been assuming there was a loose connection and hard tapping would make a difference. I'll try light taps now and see if that has the same effect. If it's the latter, that suggests some kind of software issue, doesn't it?

Ihave exactly the same problem with f, g , and spacebar.  It is the steelseries keyboard or related software as my Razor handpad is unaffected.  I have rarely used the keyboard, never spilled and keep the unit meticulously clean.  Let's go MSI, get a fix in place as i am looking for a new computer and no way will i buy another of yours if u cant fix this flaw

Having the same issues; f g and spacebar sometimes just stop working. I keep everything clean, never spilled anything. I thought maybe  things were overheating given the temperatures we've been having so I turned on the fan and it seemed to work. But sometimes just hitting the key repeatedly eventually works too.

I am having exactly the same problem with my MSI GT72VR 7RE Dominator Pro-450 laptop computer. The problem keys for me are C, M & both Shift keys.

I don't believe this is a mechanical issue since I can get those keys to work again by simply holding down the M key for a period of time. I have read several posts about this problem and it doesn't appear to be specific to any one model of MSI laptop.

Has anyone been able to resolve this problem?

I'm having the exact same issue with the same letter. The right Ctrl also doesnt work. Customer support suggested I reset my EC but that didnt work

Hello everyone, it seems that my problem is more common than i supposed, with my GT72VR 6RD... F, G and spacebar not working from time to time, and need to hold Shift to make it work sometimes. Any way found to fix this, so far? It seems that in this thread the person updated it with #fixed, but does not say how.

Can we please know how?

I updated the bios, reinstalled Steelseries Engine, but after a few days the problem comes back. It does not seem to happen in safe mode nor in bios, and definitely it is not a mechanichal failure - the keyboard is kept in excellent way.

Go to BIOS menu > Security > User password and check whether the problem still remains or not.
If yes, it should be a hardware issue.

Thanks for answer, I had it tested and the problem is not on BIOS. The buttons work fine there.
I hope they really don't think that dozens or more people dropped water or had mechanical failure or hardware issue on the same 3 digits, right?

Do the 3 keys always malfunction no matter which programs are running?
Have you ever changed any keyboard settings in the Steelseries engine?
Try to also uninstall the SSE keyboard device in Device Manager.
And perform EC reset.
