Hi guys,

got a new issue with my GT83, i cannot switch to numb. pad.
I have tried to update to the latest driver but no change still wont switch to numb. pad.

Due to me working a lot with Blender and Unreal it is vital that i get the touch pad working again!

I do have to add after using the GT83 for a month that the touch pad with numb pad wasnt the best idea from MSI.
I now had to change all my in game setting due to the numpad being next to non responsive and useless for playing games.
All in all this is an awesome machine and that is the only issue i could find.

Any suggestions?

Thx in advance

Hi a.lippl,

That's too bad that you updated the touchpad driver---that shouldn't have been necessary unless Win 10 replaced it with a generic or "universal" version. If it did, then you'll need to "hide" the MSI version of the Synaptics TouchPad driver so it isn't replaced again. MSI has instructions for hiding drivers from the Win 10 auto updater here (click on the red Download button to obtain a pdf copy of the instructions).

Here's the normal solution for the numpad problem:

Step 1 - Test the touchpad as a pointer. Can you move the pointer on the screen? If not, then your touchpad has been disabled. You can toggle it on/off with Fn+F3. So press Fn+F3 once to enable it. If the pointer now works again when you use the touchpad, test the numpad function by tapping the top left corner. If the numpad still doesn't appear, then proceed to the next step below...

Step 2 - Check the touchpad settings. One way to access them is through the Windows Control Panel (Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Mouse). The Synaptics touchpad "Device Settings" are usually the last tab on the far right of the Mouse Properties window. Select the tab, then select the Synaptics TouchPad in the "Devices" list, then click on the "Settings" button. Check the "Tapping" settings. "Enable Tapping" must be turned on and "Enable Tap Zones" must also be turned on. In most cases where the touchpad still works but the numpad cannot be used, one or both of these settings has been turned off. Your guess is as good as mine as to how this happens---it just sometimes appears to happen for no apparent reason to some users.

Kind regards, David
