MSI GX740 - thoughts?

Hi all,

I am about 24 hrs away from pulling the trigger on this badboy, its a desktop replacement and whilst my PC is no slouch (MSI P55 GD80, Core I5 750 OC @ 3.8Ghz, 4GB DDR3, GeForce GTX260) I find myself leaning more towards the convenience of mobility i.e. gaming on sofa, browsing net on train, etc..

I have seen the MSI GX740 for ?700 which appears to be a pretty good deal, hence the imminent purchase. But before I make the leap and potentially say farewell to my beloved desktop PC I thought I would visit the forums and maybe get some feedback.

So what are your general thoughts on this beast? Admittedly my only concerns about future-proof gaming is that this tiger can handle the likes of Guild Wars 2 and of course Diablo 3.

And on a separate note, what are my options regarding keyboard protection skins? I like to keep the keys looking nice (to preserve value)  ;)

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I would go with the new, second gen., sandy beach Core i5 processors that MSI is starting to ship. The DDR3 memory that they use runs at 1333 MHz. The integrated GPU with the CPU performs almost as good as discreet GPU's.

I actually went ahead and bought the GX740, but experienced problems with the display even after having flashed the BIOS/vBIOS. It would just randomely distort the screen and crash. Took it back for a full refund in the end, I think I'll stick with my trusty desktop for now. However, that FX720 looks damn sexy from where im sitting! The FNC/CTRL keys look correctly placed too ;) I still love MSI and wouldn't let the issues with the GX740 sway me, Asus and MSI all the way  :agrees:
